1 INTRODUÇÃO
Estudos conduzidos por Tinetti et al. (2017) apontam que os fatores de risco para
quedas em idosos incluem idade avançada, histórico prévio de quedas, uso de
medicamentos sedativos e psicotrópicos, problemas de visão e equilíbrio, bem como
a presença de doenças crônicas como osteoporose e condições neurológicas. Além
disso, fatores ambientais, como pisos escorregadios e falta de iluminação adequada,
também contribuem para aumentar o risco de quedas em idosos. Portanto, é
fundamental adotar medidas preventivas e intervenções apropriadas, tais como
exercícios para fortalecimento muscular, revisão da medicação e adaptações no
ambiente, com o objetivo de reduzir a incidência de quedas e promover a segurança
e independência dos idosos (Tinetti et al., 2006).
2 OBJETIVOS
2.1 OBJETIVO GERAL
- Validar novo índice de sobrecarga de medicamentos (Drug Burden Index) na
população brasileira e sua influência sobre parâmetros de equilíbrio postural em idosos
fisicamente independentes.
3 MATERIAIS E MÉTODO
9 RESULTADOS
Participaram do estudo 168 participantes. Desta amostra, 98 (58,3%) eram
indivíduos de raça branca e 124 (73,8%) do gênero feminino. Os dados não
apresentavam distribuição normal e, portanto, testes não paramétricos foram
utilizados.

10 DISCUSSÃO
Neste trabalho houve a confirmação, de que a população de estudo, está
sujeita ao déficit de equilíbrio por sobrecarga de medicamentos. A população idosa é
a mais sujeita a utilizar altas doses de medicamentos anticolinérgicos e sedativos,
porque apresentam vários tipos de doenças.
Nesse estudo não se observaram diferenças no consumo de medicamentos
entre homens e mulheres. Embora não tenha sido encontrada essa relação, há relatos
de maior consumo de medicamentos por mulheres, as quais estão mais expostas à
incapacidade funcional, depressão e hospitalizações (CHRISCHILLES et al, 1990;
LAUKKANEN et al,1992; PSATY et al., 1992). Essa demanda de fármacos tem
relação com o aumento de doenças crônicas e a grande procura por serviços de saúde
(LASSILA et al., 1996, WOO et al., 1995).
Embora o aumento do consumo de medicamentos tenha uma correlação com
a idade, neste estudo, não se verificou associação do DBI com a faixa etária,
possivelmente porque os participantes desse estudo eram idosos e após os 60 anos
eles praticamente tem a mesma carga de medicamentos.
O Drug Bruden Index deve ser uma ferramenta de fácil acesso no sistema de
saúde, onde será permitido prever a carga de droga do paciente e as consequências
relacionadas com essa carga. Proporcionando a predição de uma dose eficaz,
pensando em diminuir os efeitos que esse excesso pode causar nos idosos (HILMER,
