O que é?
Ex: Soccer is catching on in the US; I watched the lesson three times before I
caught on. (Eu assisti a lição 3 vezes antes de entendê-la; pegá-la, assimilá-la)
Ex: Everyone held on to their hats in the wind (Todo mundo segurava seus
chapéus ao vento); Hold on a second while I find this number (espera um
pouco enquanto eu acho esse numero).
Ex: She kept on watching TV after the interruption (Ela continuou assistindo TV
após a interrupção) ; Keep on Keeping on! (continue seguindo em frente!)
4. Run into – Deparar-se com, topar ou dar com alguém na rua; chocar-se com
algo ou alguém.
Run - correr
Ex: Call me if you run into any problems with my laptop. (Me chame se vc tiver
algum problema com meu laptop)
I keep on running into people that I know on the street. (Continuo a encontrar
pessoas que conheço na rua)
The car ran into the truck. (O carro chocou-se com o caminhão)
Ex: You should watch out for pickpockets in New York. (Você deve tomar
cuidado com os carteiristas em Nova York).
Ex: Movies always turn out to be worse than their previews; It turned out that
he wasn’t the father. (Acabou que ele não era o pai); A huge crowd turned out
for the baseball game (Uma multidão enorme apareceu no jogo de beisebol)
Ex: Movies always end up being worse than their previews; It ended up that he
wasn’t the father.
Ex: I don’t know how she puts up with that barking dog (Eu não sei como ela
aguenta aquele cachorro latindo.) If you pay me enough, I can put up with anything (Se
você me pagar o suficiente, eu posso suportar qualquer coisa).
Ex: The runner who fell caught up to the leader. (O corredor que caiu alcançou
o líder.)
Hey man, we should caught up sometime. (Ei cara, devemos nos encontrar em
algum momento)
Can you catch me up on the News ? (verbo frasal separado)
Look up to – admirar
Ex: I always looked up to my grandpa.
16. Make out – distinguir alguma coisa, beijar apaixonadamente, acabar sendo
I Could just make out a sailboat in the distance. (Eu conseguia distinguir um
veleiro à distância.)
He’s always talking about making out with girls. (Ele está sempre falando sobre
beijar apaixonadamente as garotas.)
The team made out pretty well in the tournament. (A equipe se saiu muito bem
no torneio).
