COUNTABLE AND UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS

Em Inglês, os substantivos podem ser classificados como contáveis
(countable) ou incontáveis (uncountable). Substantivos contáveis podem ser
contados individualmente. Já os substantivos incontáveis não podem ser
contados.
Ao referir-se a countable nouns, utilizamos “a”, “an” ou números. “Some”
pode ser usado tanto para countable ou uncountable nouns. Os uncountable
nouns são sempre acompanhados por verbos no singular. Veja alguns
exemplos:

There are some eggs.

Uncountable nouns podem ser transformados em countable nouns se utilizarmos

unidades auxiliares de medida, os chamados containers.
UNCOUNTABLE COUNTABLE
some sugar a bag of sugar
some water three bottles of water
some cereal a bowl of cereal

INCONTÁVEL CONTÁVEL
um pouco de açúcar um saco de açúcar
um pouco de água três garrafas de água
um pouco de cereal uma tigela de cereal

Para formar frases negativas interrogativas, tanto com countable ou uncountable

nouns, utilizamos “any”.

There are some eggs. There is some rice.
There aren’t any eggs. There isn’t any rice.
Are there any eggs? Is there any rice?

CONTÁVEL INCONTÁVEL
Há alguns ovos. Há um pouco de arroz.
Não há (alguns) ovos. Não há nem um pouco de arroz.
Há (alguns) ovos? Há um pouco de arroz?

Para fazer perguntas sobre quantidades, utilizamos “many” para perguntar a

quantidade de itens contáveis, enquanto “much” será utilizado para itens
incontáveis.
How many eggs are there? -> Há quantos ovos?
How much rice is there -> Quanto arroz há?
