Introdução
Reconhecido mundialmente como uma tendência de aprendizado para a língua inglesa, o inglês instrumental
significa inglês com objetivos específicos. Essa disciplina chegou às universidades brasileiras no final dos
anos 70 e é ensinada como um meio para alcançar um objetivo específico, como por exemplo, ingressar em
um mestrado ou doutorado ou atuar em determinadas áreas de trabalho, como por exemplo, administração de
modo geral.

O inglês instrumental serve para capacitar o aluno rapidamente a ler e interpretar textos em inglês. Por esse
motivo, é conhecido também como inglês técnico e tem sido utilizado em várias universidades e cursos no
Brasil. Há quem diga que o inglês instrumental serve para quem tem pressa de aprender, como por exemplo,
para um teste de proficiência ou para ler livros, artigos e manuais da área de trabalho. A grande vantagem
dessa disciplina é ensinar as regras básicas e as palavras-chave dentro do contexto apresentado, bem como
estratégias de leitura em inglês.

Objetivo Geral

- Aprimorar a habilidade de leitura em língua inglesa, levando o aluno à compreensão de textos de sua área
acadêmica e/ou profissional e à seleção de informações de acordo com o objetivo de leitura estabelecido.

Objetivos Específicos

- Aprimorar a habilidade de leitura através da observação e aplicação de: estratégias de leitura, aspectos
linguísticos, percepção crítica do texto, ensino de vocabulário, enfocando, em especial, textos da área de
administração.
- Apresentar diferentes gêneros textuais e suas especificidades. - Introduzir noções de organização retórica de
diferentes tipos de texto como recurso para facilitar a compreensão detalhada.

Qualquer profissional em dia com as exigências do mercado está careca de saber: falar mais de uma língua é
imprescindível. Entretanto, ainda não existem por aí cursos que ensinem a falar o "corporativês". Aqui, você pode
encontrar a tradução para siglas ou termos em inglês que frequentam o vocabulário corporativo.

B2B: sigla fonética de "business to business". É o comércio eletrônico entre empresas. Trata-se de um mercado sem a
participação do consumidor.

B2C: business to customer, a empresa que vende diretamente para o consumidor via internet.

Benchmark: parâmetros de excelência, exemplos de coisas boas.

Board: conselho diretor.

Brainstorm: literalmente, significa "tempestade cerebral". É uma reunião para se fazer exatamente isso: trocar ideias.

Breakthrough: trata-se de um avanço em determinada área.

Break even point: o momento a partir do qual custos e receitas de um negócio se equilibram.

Broad band: banda larga.

Budget: orçamento.

Buying in: compra (de uma empresa, por exemplo).

Cash: dinheiro vivo.

CEO - chief executive officer: É o cargo mais alto da empresa. É chamado também de presidente, principal executivo,
diretor geral, entre outros. Quando existe um presidente e um CEO, o primeiro é mais forte.

CFO - chief financial officer: Um nome mais sofisticado para diretor de finanças.

Chairman: presidente do conselho que dirige a empresa.

CHRO - chief human resources officer. É o cargo de diretor de recursos humanos.

CIO - chief information officer: Responsável pelo planejamento e estratégia por trás da tecnologia. Pode ser
também chief imagination officer, termo criado pela fabricante americana de computadores.

Gateway. É responsável por promover a criatividade entre o pessoal.

CKO - chief knowledge officer: Responsável por administrar o capital intelectual. Ele precisa reunir e gerenciar todo o
conhecimento da organização.

CMM: capacity maturity model: recurso para desenvolvimento de software.

CMO - chief marketing officer: Diretor de marketing. No BankBoston é o profissional responsável por cuidar também dos
novos negócios e internet.

Commodity: produto primário, geralmente com grande participação no comércio internacional.

Consumer relationship Management: gerenciamento das relações com o cliente.

Consumer understanding: conhecimento profundo a respeito dos clientes.

COO - chief operating officer: executivo chefe de operações. Geralmente o braço direito dos CEO´s

Core business: negócio principal da empresa.

Corporate purpose: objetivo da empresa.

Country-manager: diretor-geral para o país.

CRO - chief risk officer: Além de gerenciar o risco nas operações financeiras, o CRO também é responsável por
analisar as estratégias do negócio, a concorrência e a legislação.

CSO: chief security officer: Profissional que tem a missão de identificar fontes internas e externas de recursos para
desenvolver projetos de tecnologia.

CTO - chief technology officer: Existe uma confusão muito grande. Geralmente o CTO comanda a infra-estrutura da
área de tecnologia. Enquanto o CIO o seu uso estratégico.

Data-base marketing: marketing baseado em banco de dados de nomes e pessoas, para quem você dirige mensagens
de interesse de sua empresa.

Downsizing: redução no número de funcionários da empresa.

Endomarketing: é uma área diretamente ligada à de comunicação interna, que alia técnicas de marketing a conceitos de
recursos humanos.

ERPs: sistemas de gestão empresariais.

Factoring: prática de algumas empresas que consiste em comprar cheques pré- datados de lojistas cobrando comissão.

Fine tuning: sintonia fina, calibragem.

Follow-up: dar prosseguimento a uma discussão ou debate, retomando temas para atingir soluções. Também pode
significar revisão das tarefas que foram geradas após uma reunião ou auditoria, quando os prazos para realização se
esgotaram.

Forecast: previsão.

Headcount: número de pessoas que trabalham em determinada equipe ou empresa.

Headhunter: caça-talentos do mundo corporativo.

Income: renda.

Intrapreneur (não confundir com entrepreneur): empreendedor interno, pessoa que dirige uma unidade do negócio como
se ela fosse uma empresa independente.

L.L.M: Master of Laws, mestrado em direito.

Markup: é um sobre-preço que se acrescentado ao preço final do produto (digamos, após custo de produção, distribuição
e margem de lucro prevista).

MBA: master of business administration, pós-graduação lato-sensu em administração de empresas.

Networking: construir uma boa rede de relacionamentos, geralmente em sua área de atuação.

Outplacement - prática gerencial de recursos humanos. Consiste no aconselhamento, apoio, orientação e estímulo ao
profissional demitido, preparando-o técnica e psicologicamente para as oportunidades de mercado, bem como para o
planejamento de sua carreira.

Player: empresa que está desempenhando algum papel em algum mercado ou negociação.

Sales manager: gerente de vendas.
