O pré-modernismo NÃO é uma escola literária, mas uma fase
de transição (entre 1902 e 1922).

Mistura aspectos tradicionais da arte com inovações que

apontam para o Modernismo.

Engloba a produção literária que não correspondia às escolas

ou tendências estéticas vigentes na época.
 CONTEXTO
HISTÓRICO
Momento de transição do regime monárquico para o republicano.

República Velha, também conhecida como República do Café com Leite

Período que durou até a década de 1930, marcado por inúmeras revoltas –
Revolta da Vacina, Revolta da Chibata, Revolta da Armada, Revolta de
Canudos.

Começo da industrialização no Brasil e crescente urbanização e imigração.

 CARACTERÍSTICAS
• Sincretismo estético: presença de várias influências artísticas e culturais que
contribuem para gerar um novo movimento artístico.

• Os escritores se posicionam criticamente em relação à sociedade e aos modelos

artísticos/literários anteriores.

⚬ Se voltaram para a realidade brasileira do momento, explorando temas

históricos, políticos e econômicos;
⚬ Romperam com a linguagem formal.
 CARACTERÍSTICAS
• Ruptura com o academicismo;
• Ruptura com o passado e a linguagem parnasiana, inpirada pela antiga estética do
Arcadismo;
• Linguagem coloquial, simples;
• Exposição da realidade social brasileira;
• Regionalismo e nacionalismo;
• Personagens marginalizados: o sertanejo, o caipira, o mulato.

TEMAS: fatos históricos, políticos, econômicos e sociais.
