CONCEITUAL*
1 - INTRODUO
Nesse sentido, a Cincia quase to antiga quanto o
prprio Homem, embora, nos seus aspectos formais,
seja mais recente. A imprensa do tipo mvel surgiu
aproximadamente em 1450. O peridico cientfico
comunicao cientfica.

outros autores, no corresponde, ainda, realidade
formulao terica. Introduz-se o conceito de
produtividade relativa e compara-se com o de
produtividade absoluta, mostrando-se as alteraes
ocorridas. Confirma-se a hiptese de que o ncleo de
peridicos no formado pelos mais devotados, e
sim pelos mais produtivos num determinado tempo.
Ressalta-se as conseqncias das distores da lei,
sobretudo para a poltica de aquisio.
Descritores: Lei de Bradford; Bibliometria;
Produtividade de peridicos; Anlise bibliomtrica.

"Devotados", "dedicados" e "especializados" so
termos utilizados como sinnimos, neste estudo segundo a
terminologia adotada por cada autor.
**
Neste trabalho, peridicos e revistas so considerados
sinnimos.
* * * Zipf era lingista, realizou pesquisas sobre a fala e a
escrita e enunciou o "princpio do menor esforo",
indexao, as barreiras lingusticas e o tipo de
material bibliogrfico includo;
b) as fontes bibliogrficas secundrias so, tambm,
afetadas pela subjetividade da noo de relevncia,
estreitamente ligada ao fluxo de informao
(produtor/intermedirio/usurio) e seu processo de
transferncia, uso e absoro;
c) a poltica editorial e o sistema de avaliao de
peridicos so fatores determinantes na seleo dos
artigos para publicao;
d) a periodicidade, o nmero de pginas, o formato, a
extenso dos artigos, etc., so variveis que interferem
na produtividade dos peridicos;

Material e mtodo so descritos juntos porque foram

ABSTRACT
Bradford's law, even after reformulations by other
authors, does not yet represent the reality of
"behaviour" of scientific literature. The intention is
to modify the conceptual formulation without
changing the mathematical and graphic
representations. The concept of relative productivity
is introduced and compared with that of absolute
productivity, demonstrating, in this way, the
alterations. The hypothesis is confirmed that the
nucleous is formed not by the most devoted, but by
the most productive journals, during a delimited time.
The consequences of the distortions of the law are
shown, especially with regard to the acquisition policy.
