ABSTRACT
The casting process faster, economical and conventional is the green sand molding,
where the main ligand is moist clay. However, due to technological requirements, are
also used toxic ligands as furan resin, phenolic resin or urethane resin. New
technologies have been developed to the recovery and blanketing the sands, but the
resins available today has the ecological limitation it’s chemical origin. Thus, the
replacement of these ligands by organic compounds derived from renewable sources
such as polyurethane resin derived from castor oil minimizes environmental impacts,
leading the casting process towards sustainability required by the tightening of
environmental legislation applied to industrial operations and high cost of disposal.
