Task A. Prepare and Install the Pier 10
CRITICAL: The Weather Station pier must be placed within 1178ft (350m) of a tracker
controller or a Network Control Unit (NCU).
The top of the pier must reach a minimum of 6 ft (1.83 m) above grade.
NOTE: The placement of piers for the Weather Station is important. Install piers as
specified by the Structural Engineer of Record and refer to the project site plan for
details.
1. With the pier web facing either north or south, drive the pier, maintaining a minimum height above
grade of 6 ft (1.8 m).
2. If the project is using a wind or flood sensor you will need holes on the side of the pier.
Drill two M10 clearance holes on the side of the pier. See Figure 2-2 for spacing specifications.
NOTE: The horizontal spacing between holes on the pier is dependent on the Unistrut
used. First, measure the hole spacing on the Unistrut, then drill the pier to ensure
proper alignment when mounting.

Task B. Concrete Pad for the Snow/Flood Sensor 12
NOTE: A concrete pad is only required at sites using a snow/flood sensor. If you are
not installing a snow/flood sensor, skip to Task C on the next page.
Snow/flood sensors must be installed above a concrete pad to ensure that snow/water measurements
are accurate. A concrete pad, or a prefabricated concrete pad, will also prevent vegetation growth
near the sensor.
In preparation for installing the snow/flood sensor, pour or place a 4-ft x 4-ft (1.2-m x 1.2-m) concrete
pad for accurate measurement. The pad should be completely level (0.0° ± 1.0°).
In Task G, you will mount the snow sensor above the concrete pad. Ensure concrete pad is fully cured
before moving on to next task.
