3.1 – Património geográfico e cultural

The border with Spain, to the east, and the Guadiana, to the west, are the great borders of the
municipality of Moura. The water of its rivers and streams, the fertility of a good part of the
land and the abundance of ore from an early age that called people to this territory Far from

3.2 – Atrações turísticas da região

3.4 – Gastronomia e hábitos alimentares

This corner of Portugal has gastronomy as one of the attractions for those arriving. Those
who live here have a trump card in typical dishes to please those who come from far away
or the gathering around the table is a celebration and ritual of the region.

Let's start with the arrival at the table: sausages, bread, cheese, oil and olives.

The sausages are made from Alentejana breed pork. Bread is an identity of the region with
typical recipes that span centuries.

In Alentejo there are 3 regions with production of PDO (Protected Designation of Origin)
cheeses: Serpa, Nisa and Évora. They are from sheep and you can find them in Moura.

The oil. When you arrive in Alentejo, you are faced with vast olive groves, they are a true
postcard of the region.

Olives and oil are extracted from olive groves. Olives seasoned with salt and oregano, in the
home of the Moors, are a staple on a self-respecting Alentejo table.

Moura Olive Oil is DOP. A product only receives this designation when a connection to the
earth, to the natural factors of the region of origin, is proven. In this land, be sure to visit the
Lagar de Varas do Tojo, transformed into the Olive Oil Museum.

After the starters, are you ready for the main meal?

Alentejo cuisine is rich in smells and flavors.

It can be served with a Dogfish Soup, a Purslane Stew, the famous Gaspacho and the much
talked about Açorda or a Fish Stew from Ribeira, some Migas with Entrecote, a Lamb Stew
or a Feijoada. Let's go to desserts now.

Dishes are sprinkled with aromatic herbs, especially with coriander. And to accompany …
the wine, white and red, which is PDO Alentejo.

Snacks are one of the region's brands in the late afternoon. They are synonymous with
socializing in typical taverns. Cracklings, roasted peppers, lamb's head, coriander liver, pig's
ear, roasted mushrooms, octopus salad, snails, fried meat with tomato, among many other
delicacies, accompanied by beer or wine. Snacks are also served as a starter in the
restaurants.

A large part of the Alentejo sweets is conventual, based on sugar, eggs, bread, cinnamon
milk, almonds and gila. They are for sale in restaurants or pastry shops.
