Abstract: In the big context about the search for the promoting of democratization to
museums access, this dissertation discusses the advertising as one more strategy
used by these institutions to its promoting among all the variety of audience. Was taken
as research question about the way how the museum, especially art museum, was
seen by the audience through publicity, seeking to perceive how publicity is used to call
audience attention. To show how the connection about the museum and audience was
realized a case study about the relation of Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo with the
publicity agency F/Nazca, where a guideline was followed as semiotic analysis,
campaigns and advertisements plays produced for four exhibitions. After observation
was found number of issues intertwining advertising, art and museum. Among them
there is the interest of agencies on art museums as customers from which is able to
renew the language standards already established from the publicity where there is the
possibility to add value to the company through specific awards of the advertising
market, a process which still needs to be evaluated their effects on museums. There is
too a great number of questions during the play construction, from the museum and
agency whose answers imply on the museum concept that appears on the campaigns,
as the tone used, changing from the humor to the seriousness, or about the use of
images of works from the collection.
