at the moment (no momento), today (hoje), this morning (esta manhã) e etc. Quando tem uso
futuro são usadas expressões tais como: tomorrow at 10.00 (amanhã às 10.00), on Sunday
afternoon (no domingo a tarde), on December 20 (em 20 de Dezembro).

Next week the law office will be employing three hundred people.

O auxiliar é sempre o verbo to have (ter)
no presente simples, ou seja: have (para: I, you, we, they) e has (para as terceiras pessoas do
singular: he, she, it). O verbo principal sempre deve estar no particípio.

as palavras in e for em ações ainda não terminadas.
Faz-se a negativa no Simple Present Perfect acrescentando-se not depois do verbo auxiliar have
e antes do verbo principal:

The plane had just left when they arrived at the airport.
The lawyer had just left the office when the police arrived.
Geralmente
aparece contraído, assim: hadn’t.
The student hadn’t done his homework before the computer crashed.

By next January, he will have received his promotion.
By the end of this class you will have learned all about it.

I don’t know who did it, but my dog has been let out.

Importante! Verbos intransitivos,
como chorar (to cry), morrer (to die), chegar (to arrive), desaparecer (to disappear), que muitas

I MPERATIVO
O tempo verbal Imperativo (Imperative) é usado para dar ordens, instruções, conselho,
encorajamento, etc.

Oh do shup up!
Don’t be sad!

adjetivo. Observe os exemplos abaixo:
Observe que na frase acima a 3a pessoa he (ele) é seguido do verbo go e não do verbo
Portanto, ficou o verbo go

CODEMIG - FGV
At its most basic, innovation presents an optimal strategy for controlling costs. Companies that
have invested in such technologies as remote mining, autonomous equipment and driverless
trucks and trains have reduced expenses by orders of magnitude, while simultaneously driving up
productivity.
Yet, gazing towards the horizon, it is rapidly becoming clear that innovation can do much more
than reduce capital intensity. Approached strategically, it also has the power to reduce people
and energy intensity, while increasing mining intensity.
The key is to think of innovation as much more than research and development (R&D) around
particular processes or technologies. Companies can, in fact, innovate in multiple ways, such as
leveraging supplier knowledge around specific operational challenges, redefining their
participation in the energy value chain or finding new ways to engage and partner with major
stakeholders and constituencies.
To reap these rewards, however, mining companies must overcome their traditionally
conservative tendencies. In many cases, miners struggle to adopt technologies proven to work at
other mining companies, let alone those from other industries. As a result, innovation becomes
less of a technology problem and more of an adoption problem.
By breaking this mindset, mining companies can free themselves to adapt practical applications
that already exist in other industries and apply them to fit their current needs. For instance, the
tunnel boring machines used by civil engineers to excavate the Chunnel can vastly reduce
miners’ reliance on explosives. Until recently, those machines were too large to apply in a mining
setting. Some innovators, however, are now incorporating the underlying technology to build

smaller machines—effectively adapting mature solutions from other industries to realize more
rapid results.
At the same time, innovation mandates companies to think in entirely new ways. Traditionally, for
instance, miners have focused on extracting higher grades and achieving faster throughput by
optimizing the pit, schedule, product mix and logistics. A truly innovative mindset, however, will
see them adopt an entirely new design paradigm that leverages new information, mining and
energy technologies to maximize value. [...]
Approached in this way, innovation can drive more than cost reduction. It can help mining
companies mitigate and manage risks, strengthen business models and foster more effective
community and government relations. It can help mining services companies enhance their value
to the industry by developing new products and services. Longer-term, it can even position
organizations to move the needle on such endemic issues as corporate social responsibility,
environmental performance and sustainability.

(B) decrease the speed of extraction; = diminuir a velocidade de extração e (E) spend more in
equipment maintenance.

(D) buy machines which require man-power; = comprar máquinas que requerem mão-de-obra

A mentalidade verdadeiramente inovadora, no entanto, vai vê-los adotar

Approached in this way, innovation can drive more than cost reduction. It can help mining
companies mitigate and manage risks, strengthen business models and foster more effective
community and government relations. It can help mining services companies enhance their value
to the industry by developing new products and services. Longer-term, it can even position
organizations to move the needle on such endemic issues as corporate social responsibility,
environmental performance and sustainability.

ambiental e sustentabilidade.

The future will be rich with sensors capable of collecting vast amounts of information. The
Internet will be almost fused with the physical world, as the Internet of Things (IoT) becomes a
reality. Although it’s just beginning, experts estimate that by the end of 2015 there will be
around 25 billion “things” connected to the global Internet. By 2025, the estimated number of
connected devices should reach 100 billion. These estimates include smartphones, vehicles,
appliances, and industrial equipment. Privacy, security, and safety fears grow as the IoT creates
conditions for increasing surveillance by governments and corporations. So the question is: Will
the IoT be good for the many, or the mighty few?
While technological aspects of the IoT have been extensively published in the technical
literature, few studies have addressed the IoT’s social and political impacts. Two studies have
shed light on challenges for the future with the IoT. In 2013, the European Commission (EC)
published a study focusing on relevant aspects for possible IoT governance regimes. The EC
report identified many challenges for IoT governance — namely privacy, security, ethics, and
competition. In 2015, the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) published the FTC Staff Report
The Internet of Things: Privacy and Security in a Connected World. Although the report
emphasizes the various benefits that the IoT will bring to consumers and citizens, it
acknowledges that there are many risks associated with deploying IoT-based applications,
especially in the realm of privacy and security.
[...]
The nature of privacy and security problems frequently associated with the IoT indicates that
further research, analysis, and discussion are needed to identify possible solutions. First, the
introduction of security and privacy elements in the very design of sensors, implementing Privacy
by Design, must be taken into account for outcomes such as the homologation process of
sensors by competent authorities. Even if the privacy governance of IoT can oversee the control
centers for collected data, we must develop concrete means to set limits on the amount or
nature of the personal data collected.

Other critical issues regard notification and consent. If, from one side, it’s true that several
sensors are already collecting as much personal data as possible, something must be done to
increase citizens’ awareness of these data collection processes. Citizens must have means to take
measures to protect their rights whenever necessary. If future scenarios indicate the inadequacy
of a mere notice-and-consent approach, alternatives must be presented so that the individual’s
autonomy isn’t eroded.
As with other technologies that aim to change human life, the IoT must be in all respects
designed with people as its central focus. Privacy and ethics aren’t natural aspects to be
considered in technology’s agenda. However, these features are essential to build the necessary
trust in an IoT ecosystem, making it compatible with human rights and ensuring that it’s drafted
at the measure, and not at the expense, of people.

The threefold structure of this book describes the history of the police, the sociology of
policing, and the law and politics of the police. The introduction of this book distinguishes
between who the police are and what policing is in the United Kingdom. The term "police"
5refers to a particular kind of social institution, while "policing" implies a set of processes with
specific social functions. The idea of policing is an aspect of the more general concept of social
control. Part 1 provides interpretations of police history, the orthodox story of policing, the
11revisionist account, and a critique and synthesis. The establishment of the police was a painful
process, which produced resistance and hostility. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries the
13police idea was fiercely contested. Part 1 details the rise and fall of police legitimacy from
1856 to 1991. This includes the depoliticization of the police from 1856 to 1959, and the
politicization of the police since 1959. Part 2 considers the knowledge gained by studies of
18police culture and work. An understanding of how police officers see the social world and
their role in it is important to an analysis of what they do.

25 a set of overt changes in statute and case law, and by covert changes in policy and practice.
The new millennium of policing, the cycles of reform, the British New Labour Government and

Politics of the Police, Third Edition
Política da Polícia, Terceira Edição
The threefold structure of this book describes the history of the police, the sociology of policing,
and the law and politics of the police. The introduction of this book distinguishes between who
the police are and what policing is in the United Kingdom. The term "police" refers to a
particular kind of social institution, while "policing" implies a set of processes with specific social
functions. The idea of policing is an aspect of the more general concept of social control.
Part 1 provides interpretations of police history, the orthodox story of policing, the revisionist
account, and a critique and synthesis. The establishment of the police was a painful process,
which produced resistance and hostility. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries the police idea
was fiercely contested. Part 1 details the rise and fall of police legitimacy from 1856 to 1991. This
includes the depoliticization of the police from 1856 to 1959, and the politicization of the police
since 1959.

Part 2 considers the knowledge gained by studies of police culture and work. An understanding
of how police officers see the social world and their role in it is important to an analysis of what
they do. The core characteristics of cop culture, social research and police practice, and the
media presentation of policing are described.
Part 3 describes police powers and accountability. The last two decades have seen profound
changes in the legal and constitutional status of the police. Their powers and accountability have
been transformed by a set of overt changes in statute and case law, and by covert changes in
policy and practice. The new millennium of policing, the cycles of reform, the British New Labour
Government and policing, and the limits of police reform and policing are discussed.

Texto 1: Analista de Apoio - Turismólogo - Companhia de Desenvolvimento Econômico de
Minas Gerais – CODEMIG - FGV

Aula 05
other mining companies, let alone those from other industries.

(E) summarize.
The past financial crisis that many economies all over the world experienced prompted a
renewed interest in the role and importance of auditing. The future of auditing will therefore be
closely tied to the continuous ripples of effects that the world is still experiencing due to the
financial crisis. However, it is to be expected that this industry would continue to grow in
prevalence in the business world.
Now, more and more companies are realising that the audit and assurance professions are vital
to an organisation. In fact, many companies who, in the past, did not conduct audits now find the
need to do so. They are realising the need to go back to the basic management principles so
they can identify problematic management practices and rectify them; audit plays a key role in
this as only a true and effective audit can conduct effective fraud detection and risk management
procedures within a company. Firms are thus advised to staff an internal audit department or to
outsource audit work to specialist providers just to meet its auditing requirements.

The future will be rich with sensors capable of collecting vast amounts of information. The
Internet will be almost fused with the physical world as the Internet of Things (IoT) becomes a

20 The core characteristics of cop culture, social research and police practice, and the media
presentation of policing are described. Part 3 describes police powers and accountability. The
last two decades have seen
23 profound changes in the legal and constitutional status of the police. Their powers and
accountability have been transformed by
25 a set of overt changes in statute and case law, and by covert changes in policy and practice.
The new millennium of policing, the cycles of reform, the British New Labour Government and
policing, and the limits of police reform and policing are discussed.

U.S. immigration law provides foreign nationals with a variety of visas to become lawful
permanent residents (get a Green Card) through employment in the United States. These
employment-based (EB) “preference immigrant” categories include:
Applicants (with the exception of applicants applying for an exemption known as National
Interest Waiver) must generally have an approved labor certification, a job offer, and their
employer must have filed an Immigrant Petition for Alien Worker (Form I-140) with the USCIS.
This category has several stages that need to be successfully completed prior to green card
sponsorship. This proves to be a lengthier and more rigorous process than the EB-1 green card.

This preference is reserved for professionals with a bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent);
skilled workers, including foreign nationals with at least two years of training or work experience
who may or may not hold a degree; and other or unskilled workers filling a job that requires less
than two years of training or experience. This category is the most common with a higher
number of foreign nationals that qualify under this preference category and has a lengthy
average approval waiting period of six to nine years.

do green card é bem rápida.
