SUMMARY: The present study aims to address the issue of child sexual violence
and the contributions of Psychology in the care and follow - up of the victim. For a
better understanding of the phenomenon, the history of violence against children in
Brazil was raised and exposed what characterizes a sexual sexual violence. Sexual
abuse against the disabled is being considered a public health problem, due to its
incidence, mainly in the family nucleus. In view of the above, the following issues
were raised: What is the role of the psychologist and his contribution to the care of
children who are victims of this violence? To answer this question the following
objectives were listed: Describe the forms of sexual violence against the child;
Research the role of the psychology professional in face of this demand and describe
the contribution of this psychological care for the recovery of the child. For the
accomplishment of this work we opted for a methodological course based on the
research with a qualitative approach, of a basic nature and with a bibliographic
procedure. As brief conclusions may emphasize that the psychologist plays a crucial
role in the reception and listening of the victim, and in the psychic elaboration of the
event, contributing to the overcoming of trauma.
