RESUMO
ABSTRACT
Hepatitis C represents a serious public health problem worldwide, not only because
of its prevalence, but also because of its consequences if the disease evolves to its
chronic form, which can lead to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, one of the
main causes of liver transplantation in the world. Knowing that the vast majority
infected with HCV cannot achieve a spontaneous cure, most have the possibility of
evolving to the chronic form, with characteristics of a silent disease, with its
progression occurring over decades. In view of this, several strategies have been
employed over the years in the treatment of Hepatitis C, always seeking a good
sustained virologic response. For the initial treatment, the drug Interferon was used,
later associated with Ribavarin, but with low SVR rates. Seeking new alternatives in
the treatment of HCV, this literature review work shows a new class of drugs, the
second generation protease inhibitors, with good SVR rates and fewer side effects,
providing greater adherence, bringing new hope to those living with the disease.
