RESUMO
ABSTRACT
Given that glucose is the main source of energy for the organism, the storage of
this substrate as glycogen is of paramount importance for the vital functions of the
organism. Therefore, this work seeks to highlight the relevance and action of
caffeine use in the replacement of muscle glycogen after physical activity through a
systematic literature review, in which a search was carried out on Caffeine and
Sports Performance. As a database for the search for articles, PubMed and
SciELO were used and as a criterion for selecting articles Databases, duplicate
references were excluded. Therefore, to evaluate the action of caffeine in the
replacement of muscle glycogen after physical activity and to verify if there is a
direct association between caffeine, caffeine intake and carbohydrate metabolism
and performance. All used glycogen depletion protocols, in all studies it was
unanimous that both the carbohydrate, carbohydrate + caffeine and carbohydrate +
protein protocols were superior in any aspect compared to placebo.
