Physical education teachers contribute to the development and integral formation of
Personality their students, as well as to their social integration. The objective of this study was to

Perceptions participated (177 men and 108 women) by completing a questionnaire with 37 items
in a Likert scale: 1-not important to 5-extremely important. Exploratory factor
analysis was performed and internal consistency of the factors was obtained through
the Alpha of Cronbach's alpha. Sex and age data were analysed using Student T-Test
and One Way ANOVA. The results revealed that the instrument used presents
psychometric qualities that enable evaluate with consistency the PE perceptions about
the importance of their role in teaching students. Most valued by teachers was the
factor “specific teacher's Skills”. The men attributed more importance to “specific
teacher's Skills”, “Inter-and intra- disciplinarily in the students development process”
and “teacher's reflective ability” than the teachers. Considering the age only if there
were differences in the community relations factor in younger teachers valued over
this item.
