Bolsa Jovens Criadores 2022
One Girl, Twenty Books nasce do desejo e do movimento que este nos imprime no ato de
criação – o de deixar a obra sinalizar a sua presença por si mesma, independentemente se este
diálogo nos chega através de fragmentos ou acidentes. Nasce do processo imperfeito de
contemplar o material concebido para, no decorrer do tempo, observar como este se altera
perante a nossa perceção e a nossa perceção perante este algo que, supostamente, é estático.
No fundo, deixar a evolução dos dias tomar conta das escolhas presentes, ao tentar respeitar a
finitude das decisões, para de algum modo entregarmo-nos ao infinito das suas consequências
Não seria possível respeitar a finitude das nossas decisões e as possibilidades das suas
consequências se, no processo de criação, me assumisse como única entidade criadora. Tendo
ou não existido um passado criativo com os músicos com quem partilho este projeto, o diálogo
permitiu conceber esta criação como um resultado de cinco realidades distintas – dez olhos
sobre um mesmo fim. Acabou por ser de interesse comum observar esta criação de um ponto
de vista transversal, não só através de referências e experiências musicais diferentes, mas com
o contributo de todas as outras artes que, por norma, enjaulamos em caixas separadas, (com
ênfase na literatura, fotografia e cinema). Por outro lado, é de salientar os pontos de contacto
que existem em comum, como, por exemplo, música minimalista, ambiente, improvisada ou o
formato-canção para todos esses fins.

1. “I first met Tomás in the course of our classes in Jazz Theory at the Lisbon based Escola
de Jazz Luiz Villas-Boas, last year. Through our meetings and discussions of music from
Bach to Ligeti, Tomás seemed very aware of each of these different periods showing a
lot of availability to learn more about each of them. He is a very curious musician
aiming for originality in a informed way. I wish him all the best, and hope his musical

2. “I met Tomás Longo as a student at his local music school (Conservatory of Castelo
Branco) in 2018, in a workshop that I was doing there. From that time on, I’ve been
able to accompany his extraordinary projects as a performer and composer, most
recently during Tomás Longo’s artistic residency in Seia, as guest artist at festival DME
- Dias de Música Electroacústica, a festival that I run since 2003. During that period,
Tomás could work on news creations alongside João Hasselberg (double bass and
electronics) and Marianne Harlé (video), as well as present these new creations in
concert. In all of the mentioned experiences, I was amazed with his extraordinary
professionalism, focus, ambition, creativity, sensitivity, and profound humbleness. One
can observe in his path that he had a lot of profitable experiences in different
compositional and performative domains, that has led him into an outstanding path
that for the creation of his truly interesting artistic idiosyncrasies. The results of his
endeavours are uncommonly surprising and his artistic voice has a big evolving
potential. Tomás Longo is very intelligent, hardworking, persistent and highly
motivated. I’m confident that his studies at Rhytmic Music Conservatory will powerfully
provoke his growth as a musician, and this period of concentration on his music will lay
a great foundation for his creative growth and the appearance of a new creative voice
in his person, which is why I highly recommend him for Rhytmic Music Conservatory.” –
