to express how much you like or dislike something. And spending the rest of your life
just saying I like… it's not that cool.
So, be aware that there are many ways to speak your preferences, so that your vocabulary
can be improved and giving a more fluid and natural sense to your English!

Unless otherwise indicated, the many verbs that can be used to express tastes and
preferences are followed by a noun or a verb in gerund.
So you can see that there will always be a correct structure for talking about the things
you like.
Expressing yourself about our preferences is a good exercise to practice English, after
all it is always a very interesting topic that can arise in the middle of a conversation with
foreign people you have just met.
Like is not disputed – so find out how to explain the things you like and dislike in

Expressar-se sobre as nossas preferências é um bom exercício para treinar o inglês,

• Verb to like:

The verb to like is regular and a very common way of commenting on preferences and
tastes, and it can be followed by nouns or verbs in the gerund. See two examples for these
situations:

O verbo to like é regular e uma forma muito comum de comentar as preferências e gostos,
podendo ser seguido de substantivos ou verbos no gerúndio. Veja dois exemplos para
essas situações:

I like chocolate cake = Eu gosto de bolo de chocolate.

I like watching TV = Eu gosto de assistir televisão.

• Verb to love:
The verb to love is regular and describes something that we love, that we are very fond
of, and it can appear either with the verb in the gerund or in the infinitive.
O verbo to love é regular e descreve alguma coisa que amamos, que temos muito apreço,
podendo aparecer tanto com o verbo no gerúndio ou no infinitivo.

I love to watch the sunset = Eu amo assistir ao pôr do sol.

She loves dancing = Ela ama dançar.
Matt loves cats, ‘cause they’re not so needy = Matt ama gatos, pois eles não são tão
carentes.
 • Verb to enjoy:
The verb to enjoy is regular and has the meaning of “to enjoy, enjoy, like, enjoy”.
O verbo to enjoy é regular e tem o significado de “curtir, apreciar, gostar de, desfrutar”.

Gary enjoys reading at night = Gary gosta de ler à noite.

I enjoy better to go to the beach = Eu gosto mais de ir à praia.
I enjoy spending time at home = Eu curto passar tempo em casa.

• Verb to hate
It is also regular and seeks to reference something you hate, dislike, dislike.
Também é regular e procura referenciar algo que você odeia, detesta, que tem aversão

I hate homework = Eu odeio lição de casa.

She hates the summer, because of her hypotension = Ela odeia o verão, por causa de
sua hipotensão.

Keen On - “gostar de” ou “gostar muito de”.
Example:

Into to - estar interessado/curtir/gostar de alguém ou de fazer alguma coisa.

Example:

To have (got) a soft spot for… - ter um fraco por
Example:
I have a soft spot for blue skirts = Eu tenho um fraco por saias azuis.
She’s got a soft spot for Coke = Ela tem um fraco por Coca-Cola.
