RESUMO
ABSTRACT
Breast cancer is the most frequent tumor in Brazil and the one that causes the most
deaths in Brazilian women. According to INCA data (an estimated 66,280 new cases
of breast cancer for each year of the triennium 2020-2022. A major challenge to the
new guidelines for early detection of breast cancer in Brazil is the current pattern of
use of mammographic screening in the country, which ends up including young
women and short intervals between exams.
The Objective: This article aims to present the process of developing new guidelines
for early detection of breast cancer in Brazilian women, detailing the most used
methods. Method: The methodology used for this article was bibliographic research
in the databases: Scielo, Google Scholar and the National Cancer Institute (INCA

CAUSAS
O câncer de mama não tem uma causa única. Diversos fatores, tanto genéticos
quanto ambientais, podem influenciar o aparecimento e o desenvolvimento do
câncer de mama.
Cientistas estimam que 5-10% dos casos de câncer de mama estejam relacionados
a mutações gênicas que foram transmitidas através da família, sobretudo os genes
BRCA1 e BRCA2 que também podem aumentar as chances de câncer de ovário. A
idade constitui outro fator de risco para a doença, uma vez que há um aumento
rápido na incidência do câncer de mama à medida que se envelhece (principalmente
após os 50 anos).
