A tese de que, na Biblia Hebraica, br’ constitua três raízes independentes, foi
criada por F. Böhl em 1913. Até então, br’ era tratada como uma única raiz. O sentido
teológico de “criar” constituía um desdobramento do sentido de “esculpir/construir”. Por
volta de 1850, a reação teológica conservadora inicia um processo de salvaguarda das
prerrogativas teológicas da raiz, que culmina com o artigo de Böhl, a distinção dos
sentidos de criar, cortar e cevar, até que, finalmente, o conjunto dos léxicos e
dicionários de Hebraico divulgasse sem exceções conhecidas, a nova configuração.
