Fundado em 2013, o Movimento dos Artistas Huni Kuin (MAHKU) é um dos principais coletivos de artistas
indígenas no cenário da arte contemporânea brasileira. O grupo iniciou seus trabalhos de tradução de
cantos tradicionais do povo Huni Kuin em desenhos figurativos, desenvolvidosAPOIEem oficinas universitárias na
Terra Indígena Kaxinawá do rio Jordão, no Acre, onde vivem. As pinturas realizadas pelo grupo originam-
se tanto de registros de cantos, mitos e histórias de sua ancestralidade, como de experiências visuais,
geradas pelos rituais de Nixi pae, que envolvem a bebida da ayahuasca, denominadas mirações — que
dá título ao projeto. Este é o primeiro livro monográfico sobre o grupo, incluindo além de transcrições de
cantos e mitos huni kuin, ensaios sobre a história e o significado das práticas e figurações realizadas pelo
coletivo e reproduções de grande parte de sua produção visual.

Founded in 2013, Huni Kuin Artists Movement (MAHKU) is one of the leading Indigenous artist groups in
the Brazilian contemporary art scene. The collective began translating traditional Huni Kuin songs into
figurative drawings while enrolled in university workshops at the Kaxinawá do rio Jordão Indigenous Land,
in Acre state, where they live. The works now produced by the group, primarily paintings, form a visual
record of their community’s songs, myths, and ancestral stories, and document the experiences of initiates of
Nixi pae rituals, who consume ayahuasca in order to bring about the experience of mira..es [visions]—for
which this project derives its name. This is the first monograph to be published about the group, and
includes transcriptions of Huni Kuin songs and myth, essays on the history and meaning of the collective’s
practices and visual language, and reproductions of a great part of their visual production.
