In this 5 chapters study, in all positions, the King and the Bishop has just restrained the
defender’s King to only two squares: the corner square of the same color of the Bishop,
and a square on the edge of the board right beside the corner square. In this chapter
position the two squares are h8 and h7. These are the basic conditions to mate with Bishop
and Knight, and you must memorize it. Note well that in orther to restrain the black King
this way, White Bishop has to cover one of the King’s escape squares (h6 square in this
chapter) and the white King has to be a knight-step away from the checkmate corner
square, covering the three other escape squares (g6, g7 and g8 squares in this chapter). In
the five chapters of this study, the Knight (as well as the Bishop) is just one move from
the final mate position, so it is mate in two.
White led the opposing king to one of the corners of the same color of the bishop.
Para evitar situações semelhantes, seguem algumas dicas para melhorar a técnica
do xeque-mate de bispo e cavalo. O ideal é o leitor seguir o artigo analisando as
O Bloqueio do Rei
O momento mais complexo do mate de bispo e cavalo é o bloqueio correto do rei
adversário. Eis algumas posições críticas.
No primeiro diagrama temos a continuação da posição anterior. As brancas
jogaram 1.Bh7 e as negras responderam 1…Re8. Na sequência o branco jogou o
lance chave 2.Ce5. Se o rei negro voltar para f8 (como indica a flecha), as brancas
jogam Cd7, expulsando o rei mais uma vez.
Por outro lado, no segundo diagrama, as negras optaram por 2…Rd8 e as brancas
jogaram 3.Re6. Após o natural 3…Rc7, as brancas jogaram outro lance chave
4.Cd7! Em caso de 4…Rc6, as brancas conseguem um excelente bloqueio com
5.Bd3.
Posição após 5.Bd3. O rei negro está obrigado a retroceder. Em caso de 5…Rc7,
6.Bb5 tira a casa c6 do rei. Uma variante possível seria com 6…Rd8 7.Cb6 Rc7
8.Cc4.
Outro bloqueio! O rei negro não consegue fugir. Em caso de 8…Rd8 9.Rd6 Rc8
10. Ca5 Rd8 11.Rc6 Rc8 12.Cb7 e o padrão se repete mais uma vez, com o
cavalo na sétima, impedindo a fuga do rei.
