RESUMO

Chota cha maulwana é considerado como jango (casa) dos anciãos do povo, o epicentro de toda
aldeia chokwe, um símbolo da autoridade, da integridade e da unidade dos membros de uma
comunidade chokwe.
ABSTRACT
This research presents the Nzongo - unit of measures (informal) of the Chokwe
people, compatible with the International System of Units (SI). It aims to minimize the
distance between the “world of life” and the “world of school” of physics students in
the commune of Camaxilo in Angola. Throughout the investigation, the theorizations
of the ethnomathematics program devised by D’Ambrosio were used, as the
pedagogical links between cultural and academic knowledge. The qualitative
(historical) research sought a reflection on the approach of a specific popular
knowledge (Nzongo) to a specific scientific knowledge, the teaching of greatness.
The cultural know-how of transmitting popular knowledge of the Chokwe people was
valued, inspiring the research methodology that was called “being at chota cha
makulwana to learn. These values were configured throughout the research as
important characteristics when understanding the relevance of the insertion of
Nzongo in the process of teaching and learning the measures. The study showed
that the values of "being in the chota" can collaborate to think about an intercultural
mathematical education involving school knowledge and Chokwe knowledge in the
process of teaching and learning the measures. The values of “being in the chota” of
recognizing the equality of ways to reach knowledge, of learning from the elderly, of
transmitting and receiving values, of learning to receive visits in the village and of
promoting peace among people, allies the perspective of the Ethnomathematics
Program, can promote the decolonization of the school curriculum in physics /
mathematics, with regard to the quantities and measures, marked by Eurocentric
thinking.
