E m relação ao tamanho do município, Blumenau possui
uma das maiores áreas verdes do Brasil. Quase 70% de seu
território é coberto por Mata Atlântica, contando com oito
áreas de conservação municipais (veja tabela). A cidade é cor-
tada pelo Rio Itajaí-Açu. Córregos e ribeirões são encontra-
dos por toda parte, dando origem a recantos maravilhosos,
principalmente em bairros distantes da área central, como a

A fauna foi igualmente privilegiada em Blumenau. Não é
raro, por exemplo, ver capivaras em pleno Centro, expostas
ao sol ou refrescando-se no rio. Dóceis, geralmente ignoram
ou fogem quando da aproximação do homem. A natureza
também privilegiou este cantinho do Brasil com o som de
várias espécies de aves.
A preocupação ambiental sempre fez parte da história do
município. Lar do biólogo e naturalista Fritz Müller, Blume-
nau foi a primeira cidade do Estado e a segunda do País a criar
um órgão municipal para preservar e avaliar os impactos da
intervenção humana na natureza – a FAEMA.

Preservation and respect for nature
In relation to its size, Blumenau has one of the largest green areas of
Brazil. About 70% of its territory is covered by the Atlantic Forest, And the-
re are eight municipal natural reserves (see table). The town is crossed by
the Itajaí – Açu River. Streams and creeks are found everywhere, creating
wonderful places, especially in distant districts, such as Nova Russia. The
fauna was also privileged in Blumenau. It is not unusual, for example, to
see capybaras sunbathing or refreshing themselves in the river downtown.

ten Grünflächen des Landes. Beinahe siebzieg Prozent seines Gebiets ist
mit Naturwald bedeckt, sowie auch acht weitere Areale, die unter Na-
turschutz stehen (siehe Verzeichnis). Die Stadt wird vom Itajaí-Açu-Fluss
durchquetr, neben zahlreichen anderen kleineren Flüssen, die wunderbare
Blickwinkel der Natur zeigen, vor allem etwas außerhal des Stadtzentru-
ms, wie zum Beisliel die Gegend von ”Nova Rússia”. Die Tierwelt ist in
Blumenau sehr reich: Häufig kommt es zum Beispiel vor, dass Wassers-
chweine sich im Zentrum der Stadt sonnen oder sich im Fluss erfrischen.
Sie nehmen die Menschen nicht wahr oder fliehen, wenn man ihnen zu
nahe kommt. Auch die vielen Vögel und deren Gesang beindruckt den
Naturliebhaber.
Die Sorge um das Thema Umweltschutz war schon immer eng mit der
Geschichte der Stadt verbunden. Hier wurde der Biologe und Naturforscher
Fritz Muller geboren und Blumenau war die erste Stadt im Bundestaat und
die zweite im Land die eine städtische Umweltverwaltung (FAEMA) schuf,
die den Eingriff der Menschen in die Natur erforscht und kontrolliert.
Parque das
Nascentes

Natural Municipal das Nascentes do Garcia está loca-
lizado a 23 quilômetros do Centro da cidade. Aberto
ao público, tem 35 quilômetros de trilhas e 25 quilô-
metros de estradas, além de opções de camping e
hospedagem.
O parque é utilizado como centro de pesquisas,
para a prática de ecoturismo e de educação ambien-
tal. A fauna contempla em torno de 240 espécies de
aves, 65 de mamíferos, 39 de anfíbios, 10 de répteis e
10 de peixes. A floresta, igualmente rica, é formada
por cerca de 360 espécies de árvores e arbustos.

Biggest preservation area of Blumenau, the “Parque
Natural Municipal das Nascentes do Garcia” (Garcia Springs
Park) is located 23 kilometers from downtown. Open to the

A aproximadamente uma hora de carro está Balneário Camboriú, um dos principais destinos
turísticos do Sul do País e do Mercosul. Por toda a orla há bares e restaurantes com música ao
vivo e ótima culinária, além de atrações como teleférico e o Cristo Luz. Outros municípios litorâ-
neos como Florianópolis, Piçarras, Bombinhas, Itapema e Porto Belo também estão próximos.

At approximately one hour by car is Balneário
Camboriú, a beach which is one of the major

A educação em Blumenau é levada a sério. Em junho de 2007, o município rece-
beu o selo “Cidade Livre de Analfabetismo”, concedido pelo Ministério da Edu-
cação aos municípios brasileiros que apresentam índice menor de 4% de analfabe-
tos entre a população. Segundo dados do IBGE (Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e
Estatística), Blumenau tem 2,79% de analfabetos. A média nacional é de 13%.
Além de uma formação escolar de qualidade para os jovens, a cidade também
aposta na prática esportiva como motivação e desenvolvimento de seus alunos.
O resultado pode ser observado em competições juvenis, nas quais Blumenau
sempre figura entre as melhores do Estado.
A cidade também investe pesadamente em cursos técnicos e superiores. Insti-
tuições de renome nacional, como Senai e Senac, formam todos os anos técnicos
para atuarem nas empresas, seja na indústria, comércio ou na prestação de ser-
viços. O mesmo ocorre com escolas locais, como Cedup e CTS, que primam pela
excelência no ensino e formação dos jovens.
Entre universidades e faculdades, a cidade conta com sete instituições – FURB,
Uniasselvi, FAE, Cesblu, Ibes, Senai e Senac –, que oferecem variada gama de cur-
sos em todas as áreas do conhecimento. Estudantes de todo o Estado, do Brasil
e até do exterior vêm a Blumenau em busca de uma educação diferenciada, com
laboratórios modernos, salas bem equipadas e uma reconhecida tradição na arte
de ensinar.

Education in Blumenau is taken seriously. In June 2007, the city recei-
ved the attestation of “Free of Illiteracy City”, issued by the Ministry of
Education to Brazilian cities which have a less than 4% illiteracy rate
among the population. According to the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Ge-
ography and Statistics), Blumenau has 2.79% of illiterates. The national
average is 13%.
In addition to a quality education for young people, the city also bets
on sports practice as motivation for the development of the students.
The results can be observed in youth competitions, in which Blume-
nau is always among the best in the state.
The city also invests heavily in technical courses. Nationally renow-
ned institutions, such as SENAI and SENAC, form every year technicians
to work in industry, commerce or services areas. The same occurs with
local schools, as CEDUP and CTS, excelling in the education and training
of young people.
In higher education, the city has five institutions - FURB, UNIASSEL-
VI, SAF, CESBLU and IBES, offering a wide range of courses in all areas of
knowledge. Students from all over the state, from other regions of Brazil
and even Foreign Countries come to Blumenau in search of a differen-
tiated education, laboratories with modern, well-equipped rooms and a
recognized tradition in the art of teaching.

A Universidade Regional de Blumenau (FURB) foi
criada em 1964 como Faculdade de Ciências Econô-
micas de Blumenau, tendo sido a primeira unidade
de ensino superior e também, em 1986, a primeira
universidade do interior de Santa Catarina. Hoje, a
FURB conta com 39 cursos de graduação, além de
pós-graduação, mestrado, doutorado, MBAs, cursos
seqüenciais e educação a distância. Promove a pes-

The Regional University of Blumenau (FURB) was es-
tablished in 1964 as the Faculty of Economic Sciences of
Blumenau, and was the first higher education option in the
interior of Santa Catarina. Today, the University offers 39
courses for graduation,

on-lline education. It promotes research since graduation
and hosts major events, having already trained more than
30 thousand professionals throughout its history.

wird ebenfalls gefördert. Darüber hinaus finden wichtige

chleute wurden in dieser Universität bereits ausgebildet.
Blumenau - “ Stadt ohne Analphabetismus”
Ausbildung wird in Blumenau ernst genommen. Im Juni 2007 erhielt
die Stadt das Zertifikat “Stadt ohne Analphabetismus” vom Bildungsmi-
nisterium, das die Städte mit weniger als 4%-tiger Analphabetenrate
bekommen. Laut IBGE( Statistikinstitut) sind in Blumenau nur 2,79%
der Bevölkerung Analphabeten. Der brasilianische Durchschnitt liegt
bei 13%.
Außer der guten Ausbildung der Jugend, setzt die Stadt auch auf den
Sport als einen Weg zur Weiterentwicklung der jungen Leute. Das Re-
sultat ist bei den jugendlichen Sportwettbewerben sichtbar: Blumenau
steht hier immer an erster Stelle im Bundesstaat Santa Catarina.
Blumenau investiert auch stark in Fachausbildung und Hochschulen.
Nationalbekannte Anstalten wie Senai und Senac, bilden jährlich Tech-
niker aus, die in den Unternehmen arbeiten können: Lehranstalten wie
CEDUP und CTS, zeichnen sich ebenfalls mit ihrer vortrefflichen Schul-
und Fachbildung aus.
In Blumenau gibt es sieben Universitäten und Fakultäten: – FURB,

sendo três de grande porte (Santo Antônio, Santa
Isabel e Santa Catarina), centros clínicos nas mais
variadas especialidades e laboratórios equipados
para realizar exames de alta complexidade. Em
Blumenau, 60% da população são atendidos pelo
Programa de Saúde da Família que, entre outros
benefícios, atende parte dos pacientes em casa.
Dentre os três grandes hospitais da cidade, o
Santa Isabel é referência em transplantes, tendo
realizado mais de 350 procedimentos renais e 155
de fígado, além de implantes de pâncreas, córnea,

The Neumarkt Shopping Center is the largest center for

A lém dos espetáculos promovidos pelo Teatro Carlos Gomes, que data
de 1939, a Fundação Cultural de Blumenau promove uma série de fes-
tivais, durante o ano todo, como forma de estimular o desenvolvimento
cultural da cidade. Essa preocupação com as artes chegou com os coloni-
zadores alemães, que criaram os primeiros grupos teatrais.
Blumenau sedia grandes eventos como o Festival Nacional de Dan-
ças Folclóricas, Festival Nacional de Teatro Infantil (Fenatib), Festival
Multicultural de Inverno, Festival Universitário de Teatro (Futb), Festival
Universitário da Canção, Cultura e Arte (Fucca) e Mostra de Talentos em

A Texfair do Brasil é a feira têxtil mais importante da América Latina, tendo

completado oito edições em 2007. Reúne no Parque Vila Germânica as prin-
cipais marcas nos segmentos de confecção, vestuário, cama, mesa, banho e de-
coração, oferecendo aos milhares de compradores convidados, de várias partes
do País e do exterior, as últimas tendências e produtos inovadores.
O advento da Texfair, uma iniciativa pioneira de empresários blumenauenses,
tem contribuído para a solidificação de outras feiras ligadas ao setor. É o caso
da Fematex (Feira Internacional de Materiais Têxteis para a Indústria Têxtil e de
Confecção), também realizada no Parque Vila Germânica.
Nos últimos anos, Blumenau tem diversificado e captado eventos ligados aos
mais variados setores, como imobiliário, turístico, esportivo e tecnológico. Para
isso, além de melhorar os locais onde são realizados esses eventos, uma gama
de serviços como hotéis, restaurantes e transportes têm se adequado a essa

Texfair do Brazil is the most important textile fair in Latin America, having completed eight editions
in 2007. The fair gathers the main brands in the segments of confection, clothing, bed, table, bath
and decoration, offering thousands of buyer guests the latest trends and innovative products. The fair
receives buyers from various parts of the country and from abroad. In 2008, the Texfair will be held
from May 27 to 30, in Parque Vila Germânica.
The advent of Texfair, a pioneer initiative of local entrepreneurs, has contributed to the solidification
of other fairs related to the industry. This is the case of Fematex (International Fair of Materials for
the Textile Industry and Confection), which in 2008 will be from March 25 to 28, also in Parque Vila
Germânica. Fematex presents trends, technologies and materials that contribute to the creation of
fashion and confection.
In recent years, Blumenau has been diversifying and capturing events linked to the most varied
sectors such as real estate, tourism, sports and technology. Therefore, in addition to improving the

fico da Uniasselvi, Ermelino Rocha Júnior, 26 anos, já

a formação acadêmica”, explica. Júnior vê com oti-

N um raio de 50 quilômetros de Blumenau, em dire-
ção ao Litoral, há dois portos, um aeroporto inter-
nacional e uma rodovia federal – a BR-101 –, que corta
o Brasil de Norte a Sul. Essa infra-estrutura permite às
empresas instaladas na cidade um rápido escoamento
da produção, tanto para outras cidades e estados do País
como para o exterior. Já a ligação rodoviária até a BR-101,
portos e aeroporto é feita pela BR-470 (federal) e a Jorge
Lacerda (estadual).
O Porto de Itajaí tem mais de 15 mil metros quadra-
dos de área coberta para estocagem de produtos e 38
mil metros quadrados de área descoberta para armaze-

Ainda em Navegantes encontra-se um dos dois aero-
portos internacionais de Santa Catarina (o outro está em
Florianópolis). A internacionalização do aeroporto, em
novembro de 2004, atendeu ao pedido do trade turístico
e a capacidade subiu para 600 mil passageiros ao ano.

PRODEC:
O Programa de Desenvolvimento da Empresa Catarinense (Prodec) tem como finalidade conceder incentivos à implantação ou expansão de
empreendimentos industriais que vierem a produzir e gerar emprego e renda em Santa Catarina.
Trata-se de incentivo, a título de financiamento, equivalente a um percentual pré-determinado sobre o valor do Imposto sobre Circulação de
Mercadorias e Serviços (ICMS) a ser gerado pelo novo projeto.
O incentivo do Prodec nada mais é do que financiamento de capital de giro, a longo prazo e de baixíssimo custo.
Santa Catarina também concede incentivos à indústria produtiva de bens e serviços de informática, com base no Decreto Estadual nº 2.024, de
25 de junho de 2004.

softwares. A cidade possui mais de 670 em-
presas neste segmento. Essa vocação, no entan-
to, não é de hoje, mas teve início em 1969, quando
empresários do setor têxtil criaram o Cetil (Centro
Eletrônico da Indústria Têxtil) – a primeira empre-
sa de informática de Santa Catarina.
Em termos de apoio, atualmente o município
conta com o Blusoft (Blumenau Pólo Tecnológico
de Informática), uma entidade que promove, com
auxílio da Prefeitura e de instituições privadas, o
desenvolvimento das empresas do setor. O Blu-
soft já viabilizou diversas atividades em benefício
do segmento de softwares.
Por outro lado, um grupo de professores da
Universidade Regional de Blumenau criou o Ins-
tituto Gene, que atua em quatro grandes áreas:
incubação e empreendedorismo, transferência de
tecnologia, capacitação e desenvolvimento e res-
ponsabilidade social.
Uma parceria entre a Prefeitura e o Governo do
Estado está viabilizando a criação de um Parque
Tecnológico, no Distrito do Garcia, que terá incu-
badora e centro de inclusão digital. Entre outros
benefícios, serão 18 salas para apoio à criação de
novas empresas – uma delas destinada a projetos
voltados a portadores de deficiência física. A ex-
pectativa é gerar 2 mil empregos.
Nationally renowned software development center
Blumenau is an important pole of Brazilian software. This vocation began in 1969, when entrepreneurs of the textile
industry created the Cetil Center (Electronic Textile Industry), the first company of informatics of Santa Catarina, based
in Blumenau. In the 80’s, the Cetil won the competition to make the first reassessment of foreigners in Brazil, having
become the first company in the country to use a laser printer for that purpose.
In 1992 came the Blusoft (Blumenau Pole of Computer Technology), a body that promotes, with support from City
Hall, the development of the industry. The institution has already enabled activities that handled more than $ 15 million
to benefit the industry of software. In 2002, a group of Professors at the University of Blumenau created the Gene
Institute, which operates in four major areas: incubation and entrepreneurship, technology transfer, training and deve-
lopment and social responsibility.
A partnership between the city and state governments is allowing the creation of a Technological Park in the District
of Garcia, which will be incubator and center of digital inclusion. Among other benefits, there will be 18 rooms to sup-
port the creation of new companies - one for projects designed to the disabled. The expectation is to create 2 thousand
jobs by 2008.

chen wirkt: Ausarbeitung und Unternehmertum, Technologieübertragung, Befähigung und Entwicklung und Soziale
Verantwortung.
Eine Kooperation zwischen Stadtverwaltung und bundesstaatliche Regierung ermöglicht die Schaffung eines Tech-
nologie Parks im Stadtteil Garcia. Inkubation und digitaler Einschluss sollen damit ermöglicht werden. Unter anderen
werden achtzehn Räume zur Unterstützung neuer Unternehmen zur Verfügung gestellt – ein Raum davon für Projekte
zur Förderung von körperlich Behinderten. Erwartet wird, dass so zwei tausend neue Arbeitsplätze geschaffen werden.
