SEMANA 9 ( 3 a 8 DE MAIO)
TO BE VERB IN THE SIMPLE PRESENT AFIRMATIVE FORM
(VERBO TO BE NO PRESENTE NA FORMA AFIRMATIVA).

O verbo to be é essencial quando estudamos inglês. Traduzindo para o português, o verbo to be significa
“ser” ou “estar” e pode vir sozinho ou acompanhado de outro verbo. Esse verbo é irregular. Por conta disso,
a conjugação não vai seguir um padrão, ou seja, dependendo da pessoa a que estamos nos referindo, o verbo
vai ser representado por uma palavra completamente diferente. Quando nos referimos à idade, SEMPRE
usaremos o verbo to be, mas lembre-se que nesse caso o significado dele fugirá de “ser” e “estar” para
significar “ter” ex: I’m 20 years old ( eu tenho vinte anos de idade).

Ele é usado ao: It is raining. (Está chovendo)


- identificar e descrever um objeto ou pessoa: - Ao expressar idade:
Pedro is my friend (Pedro é meu amigo) I am 29 years old. (Eu tenho 29 anos.)
- Ao expressar tempo:

VERBO TO BE NEGATIVE FORM
Para fazer a forma negativa do verbo to be basta acrescentar o not após o verbo to be:
sujeito + verbo to be + partícula de negação + predicado = I am not a doctor.

Português: Negative Forma contrata

Eu não sou/ estou I am not I’m not

Você não é/ está You are not You aren’t

Ele ou ela não é/está He/ She is not He’s/ she isn’t

Ele ou ela não (objetos It is not It isn’t

VERBO TO BE INTERROGATIVE FORM


Para fazer a forma interrogativa do verbo to be basta iniciar a frase com o verbo to be. Lembre-se que o verbo to
be só existe de 3 formas: AM, IS, ARE. Então termos sempre o seguinte esquema:
verbo to be + sujeito + predicado + ponto de interrogação = Am I a teacher ?
Quando fazemos perguntas podemos dar as chamadas respostas curtas que podem ser afirmativas, se sim, ou negativas,
se não.
Exemplo: Are you a doctor? No, I’m not. (se não) / yes, I am ( se sim) .

VERBO TO BE AFIRMATIVE, NEGATIVE AND INTERROGATIVE FORM


Percebemos que o verbo to be é essencial para se aprender a falar inglês então é muito importante que nós! O
verbo to be é o mais usado no inglês e corresponde, em português, aos verbos ser e estar, é essa a sua principal
função. Além disso, ele também pode ser encontrado nas frases como verbo auxiliar de outro verbo, mais adiante
falaremos a respeito.

Vamos revisar aprofundando nossos conhecimentos!!


READ THE TEXT:

Are you my son?


The Prince and the Pauper (1881) is a book by Mark Twain. The book is about two boys, Tom and Edward.
They are 15 years old but their lives are very different. Tom is a poor boy but Edward is a prince. They change places by
mistake so Edward is a poor boy and Tom is a prince. The old King, Henry VIII, is not well but he is Edward's father
and he wants to know the truth...
The King visits the prince (or is he the poor boy?).
King: I don't understand! Are you my son?
Tom: No, I'm not a prince, I'm poor.
King: Are you sure? Your clothes are not very old!
Tom: They're not my clothes. They're Edward's clothes. He's poor now.
King: Oh no! This is terrible! Is it true?
Tom: Yes, it is. I'm really sorry, King Henry.
You aren't my father, you're my King.
