The bacterial resistance to antimicrobial agents has encouraged the search for
alternative substances that have antibacterial character, seeking aid and
treatment of various infections caused by resistant pathogens. Nowadays,
researches are being developed with bacteriocins, which are substances
synthesized by bacteria, correlating the bacteriogenicidade to the virulence that
some micro-organisms have and if they are responsible by the competitive
action in cases of colonization and aggression. The present work analyzed the
capacity of certain bacteria, isolated in non-human and environmental samples,
of producing bacteriocins-like substances, and its antibacterial action over
bacteria of the same species and of different species, using the method of
double layer with chloroform. From all the analyzed bacteria, the Pseudomonas
aeruginosa, isolated of liquid soap, was the only one producing such substance,
capable of inhibit the revealing bacteria B. cereus ATCC 11778, E. coli ATCC
25922, S. Typhimurium ATCC 14028, S. aureus ATCC 29213, S. aureus ATCC
33591 e P. vulgaris, with different degrees of action. Thereby, further studies
are required for the characterization and identification of this substance, which
might be used as a therapeutic resource in the treatment of the infections
caused by emerging and resistant pathogens.
