RESUMO
ABSTRACT
Introduction: People with Parkinson's disease usually have the inability to
maintain the internal rhythm of the gait, which is dependent on striatal dopamine,
responsible for the sequential patterning of step movements. This loss has been
compensated by Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation (RAS) during gait, constituting a tool
for functional rehabilitation. Objective: To compile quality evidence to investigate the
effects of rhythmic auditory stimuli on functional gait pattern performance in individuals
with Parkinson's disease type 1 to 3 on the Hoehn and Yahr scale. Methodology: after
searching the databases, 5 articles were selected to compose this review. Results:
When analyzed, their response was positive regarding the improvement of freezing
episodes, increased stride length, walking speed and decreased cadence variability
during functional gait. Conclusion: Therefore, with this systematic review, rhythmic
auditory stimulation is an efficient therapy in the treatment of functional gait pattern
performance in individuals with Parkinson's disease. However, more rigorous and
methodological quality clinical trials are needed to comparatively analyze the
effectiveness of the method in all gait parameters, in the short and long term.
