MODELING AND SIMULATION FOR BIOREACTOR MIXERS
Abstract
Mixers and agitators homogenize the substrate in the bioreactor and providing the
best bacteriological digestion. This offers favorable conditions for the breakdown of
organic compounds by the bacteria and simplifies the digestion and methane
production. The manufacture of mixing equipment depends on the mixture, the
quantity of organic material and type of the bioreactor. The modeling of mixing
contributes significantly to choose the type and mixer format applied to the
bioreactors. This work aims to simulate mixers with different formats computationally.
The choice of model will be performed to verify the performance of the mixer in the
virtual environment. Different mixers were designed and then it was verified the
performance of each one through computer simulation. It was found that the model
with better performance was the vanes mixer.
