Abstract: A cooling system by absorption was simulated and designed. The system was
operating under the following conditions-1 kW cooling capacity, -10oC evaporation and
35°C condensation temperatures. A complete study of the system components and their
influence on the system behavior was performed. In this project, the heat exchanger
“Thinker” methodology was used as a tool. The vertical absorber was designed as
follows –the flows of ammonia vapor and aqueous solution were from the hull side, and
the water was flowing into the cooling pipes. The proposed geometry was verified by
using Wilke’s correlation which described the phenomena of film condensation in vertical
tubes. The computer program was coded in FORTRAN. The results showed that the
designed cooling system by absorption has a good cooling capacity, as well as low
operational cost when compared to conventional systems by compression.
