portanto, fazendo a substituição teremos:
Ele é escritor.
Importante
* I = eu we = nós
you = você, tu you = vocês, vós
he = ele
she = ela they = eles, elas

OSTENSIVO 2-7
OSTENSIVO CIAA 114-013

Usamos apenas o auxiliar did em todas as pessoas, e o

Exemplos:
Henry is fast. (Henry é rápido. – Adjetivo – uma característica do Henry.)
Henry drives fast. (Henry dirige rapidamente. – Advérbio – o modo como ele dirige.)
Peter is friendly. (Peter é simpático. – Adjetivo – uma qualidade do Peter.)

Exemplo: The engine is started by an operator.
OSTENSIVO 2-11
OSTENSIVO CIAA 114-013
begin began begun
have had had

CAPÍTULO 3
The presently accepted theory of lubrication is based upon the Langmuir theory of the action
of fluid films of oil between two surfaces, one or both of which are in motion.
When the rotating journal is set in motion (Fig. 1-B), its surface is set at an angle to the
surface of the bearing lining, and forms a wedge of oil that prevents surface contact.
The oil films then begin to slide between the two boundary films, and thus continuously prevent
contact of the surface.
The principle is again illustrated in (Fig. 1-C), where the position of the oil wedge “W” is
shown with respect to the position of the journal as it starts and continues in motion.

In the liquid cooling system, the coolant circulates through the cylinder block, up through
the cylinder head and back through the bypass to the water pump when the thermostat is closed.
When the temperature of the coolant reaches thermostat opening temperature, the coolant
circulates from the water pump to the block and the cylinder head, through the open thermostat to
the radiator inlet, through the radiator and the radiator outlet and back to the water pump.
Fig. 2
A diesel engine is a type of internal combustion engine, using compression for ignition.
Artificial ignition, such as spark plugs, is not required to start combustion.
As the air in the cylinder is compressed by the upward (compression) stroke of the piston,
the temperature of the air increases to a degree which will ignite the fuel when injected.
Pressure from the expanding gases of combustion in the cylinder forces the piston down on
the power stroke.
Downward movement of the piston is transferred to the crankshaft, causing it to turn (rotary
motion).
Heat energy is converted to mechanical energy, and reciprocating motion of the piston is
converted to rotary motion of the crankshaft.
OSTENSIVO 3-2
OSTENSIVO CIAA 114-013
Fig. 3
4.1-What is the difference in manner gasoline and diesel engines supply fuel to the cylinders?
a) Gasoline Engine
In gasoline engines, the mixing of fuel with air is done outside cylinders, in the carburetor
and manifold, and this mixture is introduced to the cylinder through the intake valve.
Movement of butterfly valve restricts flow of air and creates a partial vacuum in the intake
manifold (Fig. 4-A).
b) Diesel Engine
In diesel engines, there is no pre-mixing of the fuel with air outside the cylinder. Air only is
taken into the cylinder through the intake manifold and compressed.
Fuel is introduced and mixed with air in the engine cylinder at the top of the piston’s
compression stroke (Fig. 4- B).
OSTENSIVO 3-3
OSTENSIVO CIAA 114-013
Fuel energy is measured in standard heat units (BTU) and gives a comparison of the power
possibilities of different fuels.
As a diesel engine converts a greater percentage of the heat units in its fuel into power at the
flywheel than any other type of power plant, it is the most efficient type of power.
Diesel fuel has more heat units (BTU) per gallon, and so gives more work per gallon of fuel
consumed.
There is more power in each gallon of fuel oil than in any other fuels commonly used in
internal combustion engines. Divide the BTU by price per gallon in your territory and see how
much more power you can get for each cent when you buy diesel fuel.

Lines or pipes, and fittings are used to carry, to convey liquids and gases in such engine
systems as the cooling system, the lubrication system, the fuel system, the exhaust system, and so
on.
Some lines are subjected to relatively low pressures, while others are required to withstand
very high pressures.
It is essential to use only the recommended type and size of line for any particular
application in order to avoid trouble and failure.
6.1.1- Gaskets, joints
Gaskets are used to prevent leakage of gases or liquids between two parts bolted together.
The gasket is placed between two mating surfaces; the bolts or fasteners are then tightened
in the recommended sequence, and to the specified torque.
OSTENSIVO 3-6
OSTENSIVO CIAA 114-013
6.1.2- Packings
The primary purpose of packing is to seal joints of machinery and equipment against
leakage.
6.1.3- Seals
Oil seals are classified as static or dynamic. The static seal is used between two stationary
parts. The dynamic seal provides a seal between a stationary and a moving part.
Note: Piping is an assembly of pipes, or tubing and fittings, forming a whole or a composite
part of a system used for transferring fluids.
The Diesel Fuel System must provide the right amount of clean fuel to each cylinder at the
correct time and must atomize the fuel adequately for good combustion.
This must be achieved without entry of air into the fuel system.
Injection of fuel into the cylinder must take place for a controlled period of time and must
prevent leakage of fuel from the injector during non-injection time.
Combustion must be controlled to limit exhaust emissions within pollution standards.
