Verb “to live” – Present Tense

Like in English, in Portuguese we need a preposition when

we use the verb “morar” (to live)

“morar” comes from the noun “morada” (address)

“em” is the preposition we use in Portuguese to say “in” , “on”, “at”

Like the preposition “de”, that you have learnt before, when we use an article after “em”, we need to contract them.

Exemplos:

Eu moro em Portugal. Tu moras na Sérvia. Ele mora no Japão. Ela mora nos Estados Unidos.

Nós moramos em Novi Sad. Eles moram em Belgrado. Vocês moram no Porto. Eu moro em Lisboa.

With the preposition “em” (in, on, at) we also contract the preposition with the indefinite articles:

em + um = num em

+ uma = numa em

+ uns = nuns

em + umas = numas

Exemplos: Eu moro numa cidade bonita. I live in a beautiful city.

Ela mora num edifício antigo. She lives in an old building.
