RESUMO
ABSTRACT
Human resource management practices seek to ensure that employees are involved in the
organization's activities and work to achieve business objectives and goals. With regard to
small businesses, it is understood that they provide the basis for Brazil's economic and social
development. Small businesses employ a large amount of human capital and promote the
entrepreneurial side of individuals and, based on the opportunity approach, can build a high
level of human capital and entrepreneurial skills. Even with the notorious relevance of this
type of company, the academic literature does not address people management in this
context and privileges the management models of large organizations. In this sense, this
work aims to investigate the way in which people management has been built and practiced
in small businesses. Parallel to this, in specific aspects, the following are defined: expose the
path and contributions of Human Resources Management, specify Human Resources
Management in small companies in the food industry and weave the relationships between
2
Human Resources Management and the performance of the company. Therefore, a literature
review was developed based on scientific articles indexed in the Scientific Electronic Library
Online (SciELO) and Academic Google databases, using the following descriptors: "human
resources management", "human resources management", " small businesses” and “small
business”. From this, it was observed that the management of human resources is one of the
ways that an organization can use to shape the behavior and attitude of its employees. In
this sense, it is understood that, if an organization manages its human resources effectively,
it will be able to generate and improve commitment, synergy and motivation that will provide
it with a sustained competitive advantage.
