INTRODUÇÃO
Como foi que as ciências, de modo geral, foram conduzidas nos primeiros séculos de nosso
país, enquanto ainda éramos colônia de Portugal? Para tentar responder a essa pergunta, é neces-
sário percorrer os acontecimentos relacionados ao ensino e à pesquisa ocorridos nestes primeiros
