ABSTRACT
Background: The absence of methodological indicators for the process of teaching and
learning in step training classes, promoted the realization of this study. Objective: To describe
what are the methodologies of teaching and learning mode of step training taught by physical
education professionals in City/State academies. Method: The qualitative study was developed
through participant observation technique with field diary. The sample was composed by four
professionals of Physical Education academies City City / State. Were observed two lessons
of each teacher and registered all possible data from the school, the application of a
questionnaire containing 24 questions, and validated by the institution. Results: teachers
showed a partially consistent methodology to the literature, the teaching method used by the
sample, was the replacement, it is not appropriate for the public in question, due to its
complexity for the teaching progression. Conclusions: The teaching process step training is
compromised when the method used by the teacher has a complexity above possibilities of
following practitioners. It is necessary for teachers to build a schedule of classes so that these
have a better fluency and dynamic balance, facilitating the process of teaching and learning
and hence the effective monitoring of classes.
