Intoduction
A verb is a word that tells about a person or thing in a sentence. Without a verb it's almost
impossible to make a meaningful sentence. A verb tells us what a person or thing does; What is
done to a person or thing; What a person or thing is. The present bibliography English research
project is of paramount importance. Therefore, the research project intends to develop a
bibliography English research project with greetings and verb to be. Therefore, the development
of this project starts by answering what is the meaning of the verb to be, how to use, what are to
be verbs. Nevertheless, will talk about the forms of the verb to be by tense and the subject verb
agreement when using to be verbs.

The subject matter in this research project are supported by examples and at the end of this
research are some exercises solved and a dialogue about greetings related to the verb to be.
Below are state the bibliography English research project aims, the general and specific ones.

General objective:

 Present basic notions about the verb to be.


Specific objectives:
 Explain the meaning of to be verb;
 Solve exercises related to verb to be, numbers and dates.

The meaning of verb “to be”.
“To be” verbs are: are, am, is, was, were, been and being. They are used to describe or tell us the
condition of people, things, places and ideas. For example, they could tell us the subject's age,
nationality, job or other traits.

1.1 The use of verb “to be”.

The verb be is used as an auxiliary verb and it can also be used as a main verb. The verb be is
irregular. It has eight different forms: be, am, is, are, was, were, being, been. (Easy Learning

1.2 How to use “to be” verbs

“To be” verbs change almost more than any other verb. In other words, they are very irregular.
Bellow are some examples of how to use “to be” verbs correctly.  Refer back to this lesson when
you have questions about how to use them in the future.

1.3 What are “to be” verbs? 


“To be” verbs are: are, am, is, was, were, been and being. They are used to describe or tell us
the condition of people, things, places and ideas. For example, they could tell us the subject’s
age, nationality, job or other traits correctly.

1.4 Forms of “To be” by tense.

There are many English tenses, but the main ones you will use are present, past, present
progressive and present perfect.

1.5 Subject Verb Agreement When Using “to be” verbs

The correct “to be” verb to use depends on your subject and tense. This chart shows you proper
subject verb agreement with “to be” verbs. 

Example sentences using “to be” verbs

These are examples of how “to be” verbs most often used. 

“To be” verbs in positive present tense sentences

I am Mozambican.

He is a teacher.

She is happy. 

They are at home.

“To be” verbs in negative present tense sentences

I am not happy.

She is not at school.

It is not broken.

We are not ugly.

“To be” verbs in affirmative past tense sentences 

I was happy. 

She was at home. 

You were there. 

It was great!. 

They were excited.

1. Look at the following sentences David uses to introduce himself to someone for the first time.
Change the UNDERLINED words to make sentences about yourself.
Hi, my name is GUIDO FIRMINO. I’m from A. MOLOCUE.

I’m 27 years old. I like FOOTBALL and WATCHING FILMS. I’m studying PORTUGUESE.

(a) Hi, my name is GUIDO FIRMINO. What’s your name?

(b) My name is MARIA.

(a) Nice to meet you MARIA.

(b) Nice to meet you too. (shake hands). Where are you from?

(a) I’m from A. MOLOCUE, how about you?

(b) I’m from CUAMBA. What do you study?

(a) I study PORTUGUESE, how about you?

2.2 Numbers and Dates

1. Find out the birthdays of your classmates by asking the question below. Then write their
names beside the correct month. Try to find someone for every month. When is your
birthday?

Conclusion

Having reached the end of this bibliography English research project of greetings and verb to be
is concluded that the verb “to be” is the most important verb in the English language due to the
fact that in many essential communication situation, as stated above, its often noticeable the
presence of this verb. Without a verb it's almost impossible to make a meaningful sentence. They
are used to describe or tell us the condition of people, things, places and ideas. Well, according to
Easy Learning grammar, the verb to be has eight different forms such as: am, are, is, was, were,
been and being. This verb can be used as an auxiliary verb and it can also be used as a main verb.
To use correctly the “to be” depends on your subject and tense, it means, there is a need of
subject verb agreement when using “to be” verbs.

The exercise above solved shows clearly how important thr verb “to be” is in the people daily
routine regarding the use of English language. The knowledge of verb to be is crucial for students
of the English language.
