This warning is located on the rotor drive belt access doors and on both sides of the upper and lower conveyors.
This warning is located at the front and rear at both sides by the legs.
This warning is located on both sides at the left rear and right rear of the machine.
This warning is located near the top of both right and left rear legs.
Attach a Do Not Operate, SEHS7332, or similar warning tag to start switch or controls before servicing or repairing the machine. This tag is
available from your Caterpillar dealer.
Know the width of your attachments so proper clearance can be maintained when operating near fences, boundary obstacles, etc.
Wear a hard hat, protective glasses and other protective equipment as required by job conditions.
Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry that can catch on controls or other parts of the machine.
Make certain all protective guards and covers are secured in place on the machine.
Keep the machine, especially the deck, walkways and steps, free of foreign material, such as debris, oil, tools and other items which are not part of
the machine.
Secure all loose items such as lunch boxes, tools and other items which are not part of the machine.
Know the appropriate work-site hand signals and who gives them. Accept signals from one person only.
Inhaling freon gas through a lit cigarette or other smoking method or inhaling fumes released from a flame contacting freon can cause bodily harm
or death. Do not smoke when servicing air conditioners or wherever freon gas may be present.
Dual controls are always active (several functions may be controlled at both sides of the control panel).
* Turn the disconnect switch key off and remove the key.
Pressure Air
Pressure air can cause personal injury. When using pressure air for cleaning, wear a protective face shield, protective clothing and protective
shoes.
The maximum air pressure must be below 205 kPa (30 psi) for cleaning purposes.
Fluid Penetration
Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak. Escaping fluid under pressure, even a pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue,
causing serious injury, and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated by a doctor familiar with this type of injury
immediately.
Asbestos Information
This Caterpillar machine and replacement parts shipped from the factory are asbestos free. Caterpillar recommends the use of only genuine
Caterpillar replacement parts. If any replacement parts containing asbestos are used, the following guidelines should be used in handling these
parts and asbestos debris.
Caution should be used to avoid breathing dust that might be generated when handling components containing asbestos fibers. If this dust is
inhaled, it can be hazardous to your health. Components that could be installed in Caterpillar products that might contain asbestos fibers are brake
pads, brake band and lining assemblies, clutch plates and some gaskets. The asbestos used in these components is usually bound in a resin or
sealed in some way. Normal handling is not hazardous as long as airborne dust which contains asbestos is not generated.
If dust which can contain asbestos is present, there are several common sense guidelines that should be followed.
Do not ship this machine without using the conveyor shipping supports. Failure to support the conveyor during shipping will result in structural
damage (or failure) of the conveyor mounting support system.
The following practices will also prevent structural damage (failure) to the conveyor mounting support system.
* When raising or lowering the machine, keep the machine as level as possible to prevent the conveyor from coming in contact with the ground.
* When loading trucks, every precaution should be made to prevent the trucks from hitting the conveyor.
Never attempt adjustments while the machine is moving or the engine is running unless otherwise specified.
Where there are attachment linkages, the clearance in the linkage area will increase or decrease with movement of the attachment.
Keep objects away from moving fan blades. They will throw or cut any object or tool that falls or is pushed into them.
Do not use a kinked or frayed wire rope cable. Wear gloves when handling wire rope cable.
Retainer pins, when struck with force, can fly out and injure nearby persons. Make sure the area is clear of people when driving retainer pins.
Wear protective glasses when striking a retainer pin to avoid injury to your eyes.
Chips or other debris can fly off objects when struck. Make sure no one can be injured by flying debris before striking any object.
Wear protective glasses during removal and installation of rotor bits due to metal chipping to avoid injury to your eyes.
Burn Prevention
Coolant
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot coolant or
steam. Any contact can cause severe burns.
Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to remove with your bare hand.
Cooling system additive contains alkali that can cause personal injury. Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and mouth.
At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and can be under pressure.
Remove the hydraulic tank fill cap only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to remove with your bare hand.
Relieve all pressure in air, oil, fuel or cooling systems before any lines, fittings or related items are disconnected or removed.
Batteries
Batteries give off flammable fumes which can explode.
Electrolyte is an acid and can cause personal injury if it contacts skin or eyes.
Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire.
Do not smoke in areas where batteries are charged, or where flammable materials are stored.
Batteries can be located in separate compartments. When using jumper cables always connect positive (+) cable to positive (+) terminal of battery
connected to starter solenoid and negative (-) cable from external source to starter negative (-) terminal. (If not equipped with starter negative (-)
terminal, connect to engine block.)
See the Operation Section of this manual for specific starting instructions.
Clean and tighten all electrical connections. Check daily for loose or frayed electrical wires. Have all loose or frayed electrical wires tightened,
repaired or replaced before operating the machine.
Keep all fuels and lubricants stored in properly marked containers and away from all unauthorized persons.
Do not weld or flame cut on pipes or tubes that contain flammable fluids. Clean them thoroughly with nonflammable solvent before welding or flame
cutting on them.
Remove all flammable materials such as fuel, oil and other debris before they accumulate on the machine.
Do not expose the machine to flames, burning brush, etc., if at all possible.
Shields, which protect hot exhaust components from oil or fuel spray in the event of a line, tube or seal failure, must be installed correctly.
Fire Extinguisher
Have a fire extinguisher available and know how to use it. Inspect and have it serviced as recommended on its instruction plate.
Ether
Ether is poisonous and flammable.
Breathing ether vapors or repeated contact of ether with skin can cause personal injury.
Do not store replacement ether cylinders in living areas or in the operator's compartment.
Do not store ether cylinders in direct sunlight or at temperatures above 40°C (102°F).
Discard cylinders in a protective place. Do not puncture or burn cylinders.
Repair any loose or damaged fuel and oil lines, tubes and hoses. Leaks can cause fires. Contact your Caterpillar dealer for repair or replacement.
Check lines, tubes and hoses carefully. Do not use your bare hand to check for leaks. Use a board or cardboard to check for leaks. See Fluid
Penetration in the Safety Section for more details. Tighten all connections to the recommended torque. Replace if any of the following conditions
are found.
Make sure that all clamps, guards and heat shields are installed correctly to prevent vibration, rubbing against other parts, and excessive heat
during operation.
This machine can be mounted or dismounted from either side of the machine.
Lower the operator access ladder by releasing the latch and lowering the ladder. Repeat on the other side.
* Mount and dismount the machine only where steps and/or handholds are provided.
* Inspect, and when necessary, clean and have repairs made to steps and handholds before mounting and dismounting.
Make sure the machine is equipped with a lighting system as required by conditions.
Make sure no one is working on, underneath or close to the machine before starting the engine or beginning to move the machine. Make sure the
area is free of personnel.
Engine Starting
Do not start the engine or move any of the controls if there is a Do Not Operate or similar warning tag attached to the engine start switch or
controls.
Move all hydraulic controls to the HOLD position before starting the engine.
See, Engine Start Switch, for the conditions that must be met before starting the engine.
Diesel engine exhaust contains products of combustion which can be harmful to your health. Always start and operate the engine in a well-
ventilated area. If in an enclosed area, vent the exhaust to the outside.
Clear all obstacles from the path of the machine. Beware of hazards such as wires, ditches, etc.
Adjust the rear view mirrors (if equipped) for best vision, especially close to the machine.
Make sure the machine horn, the back-up alarm and all other warning devices are working properly.
Machine Operation
The machine may be operated with the operator access ladders in the stored position when necessary.
Operate the controls only with the engine running (except the DC powered functions).
Check for proper operation of all controls and protective devices while moving slowly in an open area.
The operator must be satisfied that no one will be endangered before moving the machine.
Raise the rotor to clear all obstacles when the machine direction is in reverse and the rotor is running.
Lower the rotor slowly when starting a cut to prevent the machine from riding up on the rotor and lunging backward.
Never allow work to be performed in the area of the rotor while the rotor is engaged.
Do not allow anyone to stand or walk behind the machine while it is in operation. The machine may lunge backward if the rotor hits an obstruction.
Never allow a truck to hit the conveyor. If a truck contacts the upper conveyor with enough force, it can cause the conveyor structure or support
members to fail immediately. However, minor contact by a truck can cause enough stress to start hairline cracks in the conveyor structure, support
members and welds that will lead to a later failure.
Stay an adequate distance from the edge of cliffs, overhangs and slide areas.
If the machine begins to sideslip on a grade, immediately turn the machine downhill.
Be careful to avoid the condition which could lead to tipping when working on hills, banks or slopes, and when crossing ditches, ridges or other
obstructions.
Keep the machine under control and do not work it over its capacity.
Never straddle a wire rope cable or similar device, nor allow others to do so.
No personnel should be between the machine and trailing equipment when maneuvering to connect them. Block the tongue or hitch of trailing
equipment to align it with the drawbar or hitch.
Machine Parking
Park on a level surface. If necessary to park on a grade, block the machine.
Lower the mainframe until the rotor rests on the ground or until the mainframe rests on the support legs.
Turn the battery disconnect switch key to OFF and remove the key when leaving the machine for an extended period of a month or longer. This will
prevent battery drain by short circuits or current draw made by some of the components, or by vandalism.
Measurement is obtained on a static machine with the procedures and conditions as described in ISO 6394 or 86/662/EEC.
Vibration Level
Hands/Arms: The weighted root mean square acceleration to which the hands/arms are subjected, is less than the 2.5 m/s2 requirements.
Whole Body: The weighted root mean square acceleration to which the whole body is subjected is 0.75 m/s2.
2631/1, ISO 5349 e SAE J1166.

The front tracks are controlled with the steering wheels located at both sides of the console.
The rear track steering is also controlled by the steering wheels when in the coordinated and crab steer modes.
The rear tracks are controlled with the steer mode selector switch located on the control panel.
There are four steering modes, rear steer, crab steer, coordinated steer and front steer.
Rear steer must be selected when starting the engine. The engine will start with the steer mode selector in any position, but there will be no
movement of the tracks until REAR is selected.
NOTE: There will be no machine movement when the rotor service door is open. Travel, steer and rotor functions are disabled.
NOTE: Sound the horn to clear personnel from the track area before selecting any steer mode. The tracks can turn automatically depending on
steer mode selected.
Rear Steer (1)- Move the selector switch to REAR to select the rear steer mode. In the rear steer mode, the front and rear steering is controlled
independently. The front steering will be controlled with the steering wheel and the rear steer will be controlled with the rear steer switch. See the
topic, "Rear Steer Switch".
NOTE: Rear steer is not active when the rotor service door is open.
Crab Steer (2)- Move the selector switch to CRAB to select the crab steer mode. When the selector switch is in the CRAB steer position, the rear
tracks will follow and rotate in the same direction as the front tracks. This allows the operator to move the machine sideways.
Coordinated Steer (3)- Move the selector switch to COORDINATED to select the coordinated steer mode. When the selector switch is in the
COORDINATED steer position, the rear tracks will follow and rotate in the opposite direction of the front tracks. This allows the operator to turn
sharper corners and follow turns with more accuracy.
Front Steer (4)- Move the selector switch to FRONT to select the front steer mode. When the selector switch is in the FRONT steer position, the
rear tracks will assume a straight ahead direction and remain there, the front can be turned in either direction. This allows the operator to maintain
straight runs.
(2) Move the switch to the right to make the rear tracks turn to the right when traveling forward.
Steering Wheel
Turn the steering wheel in a clockwise direction to turn the front tracks to the right. Turn the steering wheel in a counterclockwise direction to turn
the tracks to the left.
Elevation Controls
Grade/Slope System Power Switch (1)- Move this switch forward to turn on the grade/slope system. Move this switch rearward to turn off the
grade/slope system. This switch must be OFF to start the engine.
NOTE: The rear of the machine must be lowered approximately six inches before either front leg will lower.
Right Front Ground Station
Right Front Raise/Lower Switches (3)- Move this switch forward (or up at ground stations) to raise right front leg. Move the switch rearward (or
down at ground stations) to lower right front leg. The switch will operate with the grade/slope switch ON or OFF.
NOTE: The rear of the machine must be lowered approximately six inches before either front leg will lower.
NOTE: When the normal cutting position is reached, lowering of the rear of the machine will automatically stop.
Rear Bypass Switches (5)- When this switch is held on, the rear legs can be lowered past the automatic stops when using the rear lower switch.
Grade/Slope Controls
Introduction
The grade/slope system consists of the following items: The central controller on the console, a sonic grade sensor on each side of the machine,
elevation controls and a slope sensor at the center of the machine. Grade and slope controls can be operated and set by the operator at the
console or from the ground level (separate person on the ground).
NOTE: The grade/slope power switch MUST be set to ON for the grade/slope system to power up. The grade/slope power switch MUST be set to
OFF for the engine to start. See, "Elevation Controls".
NOTE: The manual elevation controls are active at all times when the key is ON and will override the automatic grade/slope controls.
The Mode Selector switches must be in the MAN position or reset to MAN position for the grade/slope system to be active when turning on the
grade/slope system.
Left Side Automatic (1) - Set the switch to AUTO at the left side of the controller and at the left side sonic sensor to select automatic operation. A
red AUTO message will light at both locations to indicate that automatic operation is being used. In left side AUTO operation, the controller will
automatically raise or lower the left front leg to keep the machine at the displayed value (setpoint) shown on the left LCD. Rotate knob (3) clockwise
to increase the value and counterclockwise to decrease the value.
Right Side Automatic (2) - Set the switch to AUTO at the right side of the controller and at the right side sonic sensor to select automatic
operation. A red AUTO message will light at both locations to indicate that automatic operation is being used. In right side AUTO operation, the
controller will automatically raise or lower the right front leg to keep the machine at the displayed value (setpoint) shown on right side LCD. Rotate
knob (4) clockwise to increase the value and counterclockwise to decrease the value.
Manual (5) - Set the switch to MAN to select manual operation. The operator at the console or at the ground may select manual operation at any
time and disengage automatic operation. With the machine in MANUAL operation, rotate knob (3) or (4) clockwise to raise that corresponding leg
of the machine in both grade and slope mode. Rotate knob (3) or (4) counterclockwise to lower that corresponding leg of the machine in both grade
and slope mode. When MANUAL is selected all LCD displays will indicate the actual measured height or slope of the machine. The set point will be
stored in memory and the arrows around the rotary knob will indicate the direction to return to set point.
NOTE: The rotary knob will not allow you to lower past the previous set point. The Mode Selector Switch must be set to AUTO to lower further than
the previous set point.
Calibrate (6) - Set the switch to CAL position to adjust the sonic grade sensors and the controller readouts.
Slope Left/Grade Right (7) - This position allows slope to be set on the left side and grade on the right.
Grade (8) - This position allows grade to be set on both sides of the machine.
Slope Right/Grade Left (9) - This position allows slope to be set on the right side and grade on the left.
Slope Gain Adjustment (10) - This screw allows adjustment of the slope gain (response speed).
Grade Gain Adjustment (11) - This screw allows adjustment of the grade gain (response speed).
Conveyor Controls
Introduction
The conveyor system can be controlled from either side of the control console. The controls consist of an On/Off switch, an indicator light that
illuminates when the conveyor system is on, a raise/lower switch, left/right swing switch and a rotary knob that controls the speed of the second
stage (discharge) conveyor (Left side control only).
On/Off Switch (1) - Momentarily push the switch forward to turn both conveyors ON.
Conveyor Running Indicator (2) - This amber indicating light will illuminate when the conveyors are ON.
Raise/Lower Switch (4)- Momentarily push this switch up to raise the conveyor. Momentarily push this switch down to make the conveyor lower.
Rotary Speed Control (5)- Rotate the knob clockwise to increase the second stage (discharge) conveyor speed. Rotate the knob
counterclockwise to decrease the second stage (discharge) conveyor speed.
NOTE: It is recommended the conveyors be run at full speed unless conditions require less than full speed.
Rotor Controls
Introduction
The rotor control consists of a three position switch, a service door sensor and a kickback ski sensor. The rotor can only be engaged with the
engine speed between 1000 and 1200 RPM. If the engine speed drops below 1000 RPM or if a kickback condition is detected or the service door is
opened, the rotor will shut down.
OFF (1)- In the OFF position, the rotor clutch is disengaged, the rotor belt is slack and both the service and rotor park brakes are set (ON). This is
the position for starting the engine and is the reset position to clear a shutdown caused by the service door sensor.
NOTE: The engine will start in any position other than OFF, but no rotor control will be possible until the rotary switch is set to the OFF position (the
operator sequence error light will remain on indicating a starting sequence error until the switch is set to OFF). The OFF position is used when
performing maintenance.
STANDBY (N) (2)- This position is the standby position. In this position the rotor parking brake releases, the rotor belt is tightened and the service
brake is set. STANDBY is the reset position after a kickback is detected and also when engine speed is out of range during rotor engagement.
ON (3)- This position disengages the service brake and after a two second delay, engages the rotor clutch.
NOTE: Before selecting the ON position, set the engine speed (RPM) to the blinking cell (it will go solid when set properly) on the tachometer.
ON (2) - Water pump is on continuously. This position is used to prime the water pump, set flows and to run the high pressure washdown system.
AUTO ON (3) - This position is used to provide water to the conveyors and rotor box whenever the machine is moving forward and the rotor is
engaged. If either forward propel is stopped or the rotor is stopped, the water spray will shut off.
NOTE: When AUTO and ON positions are selected, solenoid valves near the manual valves open when the pump is started.
Conveyor Spray Bar Water System Pressure (4) - Indicates the water pressure in the front rotor spray bar. Normal pressure is 103-207 kPa (15-
30 psi). Open the valve (located below the gauge) more if pressure is below 105 kPa (15 psi) or check the filters.
Rotor Spray Bar Water System Pressure (5) - Indicates the water pressure in the rotor spray bar water system. Normal pressure is 103-207 kPa
(15-30 psi). Open the valve (located below the gauge) more if pressure is below 105 kPa (15 psi) or check the filters.
NOTE: For high pressure wash, the water spray switch needs to be in the ON position and the manual hydraulic control (red button located on the
high pressure pump by the gathering conveyor) needs to be pulled out and rotated one-quarter turn to ON.
First stage conveyor valve (6) - This valve controls the amount of water going to the first stage conveyor (between belts).
Second stage conveyor valve (7) - This valve controls the amount of water going to the second stage conveyor (between belts).
Conveyor spray bar valve (8) - This valve controls the amount of water going to the cutter box discharge area spray bar.
Rotor spray bar valve (9) - This valve controls the amount of water going to the rotor spray bar.
Moldboard Control
Introduction
The moldboard control consists of a selector switch for manual or automatic control, three raise/lower switches that control the height of the
moldboard, and a down pressure adjustment knob that controls the amount of down pressure on the moldboard in the automatic mode.
NOTE: All moldboard switches are inactive when the rotor door is open.
Operator's Console
RAISE (1) - Hold the switch towards the RAISE position to raise the moldboard.
LOWER (2) - Hold the switch towards the LOWER position to lower the moldboard.
NOTE: This switch is active in both manual and automatic pressure control.
MANUAL (1) - In this position the moldboard will float. The only down pressure will be the weight of the moldboard. If the raise/lower switch is
used, the moldboard will react and return to float immediately after the switch is released.
NOTE: The MANUAL position will allow the rotor service door to be opened.
AUTOMATIC (2) - This position will provide down pressure to the moldboard to the setting of the down pressure adjustment knob. All raise/lower
switches will operate but when released the moldboard will return to the down pressure position.
If the down pressure is adjusted too high in the automatic mode, it is possible to lose traction at the rear of the machine.
NOTE: The rotor service door can not be opened or closed in the AUTOMATIC position.
CALIBRATE (2) - The CALIBRATE position is used for calibration of control switches, handles and track positions.
RAISE (1) - Move the switch to this position to raise the engine hood.
LOWER (2) - Move the switch to this position to lower the engine hood.
NOTE: This switch operates when the key switch is ON. When the engine is not running, this switch operates a DC electric powered hydraulic
motor to raise and lower the hood.
This switch is used to release the track brakes for machine towing. The switch must be held to the ON position to keep the brakes released. Key
switch must be ON. See towing instructions in the topic, Towing Information, for further information.
The following conditions must be met to raise the rotor service door:
* Rotor control selector switch in the OFF position (if door is opened at any position other than OFF, switch must be reset to OFF for rotor control)
* Grade/Slope Switch in the OFF position
Holding the switch in the RAISE position will first cause the moldboard to raise and then the service door will swing open to its service lock position.
NOTE: Rotor door indicator will be lit when the door is open.
The rotor service door lock (right side of rotor) must be held back towards the rear of the machine to lower the door.
Hold the switch in the LOWER position will first raise the moldboard (if it moved) and then the rotor service door will swing closed.
This indicates the level of the water in the water tank. The machine should be approximately level for a correct reading.

Mantenha a máquina sempre sob controle. Mantenha a máquina o mais
baixo possível.
PERCEBER
1. Dê partida no motor.
3. Move the forward/reverse selector switch momentarily to "F" to select movement in the forward direction. Move the forward/reverse selector
switch momentarily to "F" to select movement in the reverse direction. The CMS display will indicate the direction of travel and when reverse is
selected, the backup alarm will sound.
NOTICE
Be sure to raise the rotor to clear all obstacles when the rotor is
running. Rotor damage can result if obstacles are struck with
the rotor running while in the reverse direction. Sudden
machine movement is also possible.
The parking brake is used to prevent machine movement. Apply the parking brake before the engine is shut down. Apply the parking brake before
the starting the engine. The engine will start when the parking brake is not applied and machine movement is possible.
Elevation Control
The electronic elevation control system provides both manual and automatic elevation control modes. Sonic sensors at either side of the machine
can be positioned in various ways for a variety of conditions to control both the grade and slope of the cut surface. Controls are placed at the
operator's console and on each sensor so that the machine operator and a ground operator may make adjustments in elevation as needed.
System Description
Grade is determined by the value selected by the operator and is controlled by the difference of the heights between the front and rear legs.
Slope is determined by the value selected by the operator and is controlled by the difference of the heights between the right-front and left-front
legs.
The sonic sensors will detect and follow a string line, curb, etc., and the electronic control system makes adjustments to the heights of the legs to
control the grade and slope of the cut surface.
Manual controls are provided at ground stations and at the right side of the central controller. When using automatic operation, either the ground
man or the operator may use manual controls to raise the machine to jump obstacles. Instant return to automatic operation is provided by manually
lowering to within two and one-half inches of the set point.
See, Zero Calibration Of Sonic Grade Sensors and Controller Calibration in the Operation Adjustments section.
The sonic grade sensors send sound waves down to the target in a cone shape, with the smallest part of the cone shape at the sensor and the
largest part of the cone shape on the target. The closest working distance (1) is 46 cm (12 in) and the farthest working distance (2) is 140 cm (55
in).
At a working distance (3) of 61 cm (24 in), the diameter of the sound waves on the target is 15 cm (6 in). At a working distance (4) of 91 cm (36 in),
the diameter of the sound waves on the target is 25 cm (10 in).
There are five zones that are indicated by the sensors and on the central controller.
ON GRADE ZONE (SET POINT) - When bar (5) is lit, it means that you are at the grade that you selected as a set point.
SOLID LOW ZONE - Indicator (6) will be lit when you are 6 cm (2.4 in) (or less) lower than the grade that you selected as a set point.
FLASHING LOW ZONE - When indicator (6) is flashing, it means that you are 1.5 cm (.60 in) (or less) lower from the grade that you selected as a
set point.
NOTE: A slow flashing low arrow indicates you are more than 6 cm (2.4 in) lower from the grade that you selected as a set point. A steady beep
type alarm will sound along with the slow flashing arrow. The controller will not react to a change that large.
SOLID HIGH ZONE - Indicator (7) will be lit when you are 6 cm (2.4 in) (or less) higher from the grade that you selected as a set point.
FLASHING HIGH ZONE - When indicator (7) is flashing, it means that you are 1.5 cm (.60 in) (or less) higher from the grade that you selected as a
set point.

Iniciando a operação
longas.
1. Toque a buzina e dê partida no motor.
2. Put the machine in position at the starting point of the cut. Lower the kickback ski to the operating position.
NOTE: If the sonic sensors are to be used, put them in position. Remember, position the sensors as close to the centerline of the rotor for the most
accurate cut.
4. Select a mode of steering. Set the engine speed (RPM) at 1100 rpm (flashing bar will go solid).
6. Use operator's station elevation controls or one of the rear ground station controls to lower the rear of the machine to the automatic stops.
OR
OR
7. Lower the front of the machine until the rotor just touches the surface to be cut. The front of the machine may be lowered with operator's station
elevation manual controls, left-front or right-front ground station manual controls.
NOTE: Zero calibrate the sonic sensors if automatic operation is desired. Select Grade or Grade/Slope operation as determined by job
requirements.
9. Turn the water spray system to AUTO. Adjustments to the water spray valves will be necessary to suit the job. Manual operation may be used,
but automatic operation is useful when frequent starting and stopping of the conveyors is necessary.
10. Position the conveyor over the truck that is waiting to receive the milled material if the milled material is to be removed from the job site.
11. Select one of the following operating techniques as necessary for job requirements:
Manual Operation
1. Start operation. See the previous topic, "Starting Operation".
2. Use the manual controls at the front ground stations to slowly lower the machine to the desired depth of cut.
5. Select low travel speed with the Low/High Propel Speed Switch.
6. Release the parking brake and move the propel lever to the desired rate of travel.
7. Adjust the conveyor controls as necessary. Adjust the moldboard operation as necessary.
8. Use the manual controls at the front ground stations to maintain the desired depth of cut.
9. If it becomes necessary to go over an obstacle, raise the machine with the manual controls and travel until the rotor is past the obstacle, and
manually lower the machine to the desired cut.
2. To use the automatic elevation control in either grade or slope, the sonic grade sensor and the central controller must be switched to AUTO for
each side of the machine at BOTH the sonic grade sensor and the central controller. If AUTO is not selected at both locations, the system remains
in MANUAL.
3. Red indicators on both the sonic grade sensors and the central controllers will light when using automatic elevation control.
4. With the slope side set on AUTO, bring the machine down to the depth of cut desired and the controller will maintain the slope that is required.
NOTE: The operator may change from grade to slope or from slope to grade while running in automatic.
Either the sonic grade sensor or the central controller may be returned to MANUAL which would disable the automatic operation. This allows
control to a person on the ground or the operator on the machine to make adjustments when necessary.
4. When automatic operation is selected, the LCD display will indicate the actual set (desired) point or slope of the machine. The automatic
controller will raise or lower each of the front legs to keep the machine at the displayed value in grade or slope.
5. To change the set value, rotate the adjustment knob clockwise to increase the value or counterclockwise to decrease the value. You will notice
that the knob has detents, each click of the knob represents a change of .05 (in).
Example - If you are getting a value of 2.4 and the .4 is blinking, the actual value is 2.45. Rotate the knob one more click (clockwise) and the
display will read 2.5.
8. Select low travel speed with the Low/High Propel Speed Switch.
9. Release the parking brake and move the propel lever to the desired rate of travel.
10. Adjust the conveyor controls as necessary. Adjust the moldboard operation as necessary.
12. Wait for the conveyors to clear all materials and turn the conveyor system OFF. Turn the water spray system OFF.
13. Use front and rear elevation switches to manually raise the machine to clear obstructions.
16. Put the kickback ski in the stored position if the machine is to be moved. Put the moldboard in MANUAL.
If the machine is to be left idle for a long period in freezing temperatures, the water tank, lines, filters and pumps must be drained to avoid damage
from freezing water. Refer to Water Spray System in the When Required section.
When the controller is switched from AUTO to MANUAL, the value (set point) is stored in the computer.
While in MANUAL operation, the arrows around the rotary adjustment knobs will flash to indicate which direction to turn the rotary knob to arrive at
the last set point.
The set point is used as a reference to enable you to return to a depth of cut after making a manual adjustment (such as jumping a manhole cover).
Always remember to switch from MANUAL to AUTO at the depth or slope that you want to return to after making the manual adjustment.
When you wish to return to the set point, manually lower the machine until the ON GRADE bar is lit and then return to AUTO. If the ON GRADE bar
is lit when returning to AUTO in grade control, the machine height will be adjusted, to ± 3/16 inch maximum, so that the set point is repeated. If the
ON GRADE bar is not lit when returning to AUTO, the set point will be changed to the value that is indicated on the display.
NOTE: Rotate the knob to lower the machine in the manual mode to automatically stop at the previous set point. The sensor and controller must be
switched to AUTO to lower further.
When running in slope control, the same method should be used to return to the previous set point, except the slope value that is indicated on the
display needs to be matched to the previous set slope. In slope control the set point is changed when switching from MANUAL to AUTO.
1. Stop the machine before reaching the obstacle. Use the manual elevation controls at the ground station to raise the front of the machine until the
rotor will clear the obstacle. It may be necessary to raise the rear of the machine, depending on the depth of cut.
3. Use the front manual elevation switches at the ground station to lower the front of the machine. As the grade sensors come within 2 1/2 inches of
the set point, the automatic control will take over and lower the machine to the set point. When it is apparent the automatic control has taken over,
release the front manual switches.
NOTE: It may be necessary to adjust the height as the rear legs of the machine travel over the surface that was not milled.
2. Put the controller in AUTO mode, slowly use the rotary knobs to lower into the cut as the machine moves forward.
3. When the desired depth of cut is reached, set the controller to the desired method of operation.
Butt Cut
1. Position the machine at ninety degrees to the surface to be milled. Depending on the job site conditions, the machine may be lowered into the
cut before reaching the surface to be milled. It may be necessary to plunge directly down into the surface to be milled.
2. Start operation. See the previous topic, "Starting Operation". The machine should be running with the rotor turning at the surface to be milled.
3. Slowly use the manual elevation controls at the front ground stations to lower into the cut.
4. When the desired depth of cut is reached, set the controller to the desired method of operation.
6. To end operation, slowly use the manual elevation controls at the front ground stations to raise out of the cut.
Fresamento no local

A limpeza adequada
geralmente é fornecida operando no modo FLOAT (sem pressão descendente).
central do rotor.
e selecione o modo MANUAL.
3. Lower the front of the machine with the front elevation switch or rotary knobs on the sonic grade sensors until the rotor teeth are in contact (just
touching) with the surface to be cut.
NOTE: It is important to put the sonic grade sensors in the desired position before calibration. If the sensors are moved, they will need to be
calibrated for the new position.
OR
6. Release the CAL switch. The LCD will display positive values for distance between the rotor and surface to be cut. The LCD will display negative
values for distances cut into the surface to be cut (depth of cut).
7. Return to AUTO mode and repeat for the other side of the machine.
1. To select the calibration menu, hold both controller switches in the CAL position.
2. Rotate the right adjustment knob to scroll through the different routines.
3. Stop at the routine that you would like to adjust and release the CAL switches.
4. The LCD will now display the routine choices that can be selected.
5. Scroll though the choices with the right adjustment knob. Stop at the one that you want to change, momentarily select the CAL position and
release with either CAL switch. The choice will be stored into memory.
The following is the sequence of the calibration menu in the order that they appear:
Slope calibration - The slope sensor can be calibrated to the machine in this mode. In this mode the display will appear, "CAL SLP". See, Zero
Slope Calibration, in the following topic.
Auto valve offset calibration - This routine is used to calibrate the deadband values in the proportional control valves that raise and lower the
front legs.
NOTICE
To calibrate:
1. Move the machine to a fairly level area.
2. Adjust the machine height to approximately a foot from the maximum height.
3. With the machine warmed up and the engine at high idle, select automatic offsets. In this mode the display will appear, "AUT OFS".
4. Momentarily select CAL with either switch to start the automatic valve calibration.
5. The routine will start with the raise solenoid for the left leg. It will increase the current duty cycle to this solenoid until the left leg starts to raise.
This is detected by the slope sensor. The controller then subtracts a set amount from this and stores that value.
6. The routine then indexes to the lower solenoid for the left leg and sets the deadband value. The right leg raise and lower solenoids will be
calibrated next.
7. When finished, select CAL with either switch. This will return you to the manual control mode.
Manual valve offset calibration - This routine is used to calibrate the deadband values in the proportional control valves that raise and lower the
front legs. This routine should only be used to re-adjust or troubleshoot the deadband values set by the automatic valve calibration routine.
To calibrate:
2. Adjust the machine height to approximately a foot from the maximum height.
3. With the machine warmed up and the engine at high idle, select automatic offsets. In this mode the display will appear, "CAL OFS".
4. Momentarily select CAL with either switch to start the automatic valve calibration.
NOTE: If the deadband value is set higher than the value that is required to move the cylinder, movement will continue until you scroll to the next
calibration.
5. The routine will start with the raise solenoid for the left leg. Use the rotary adjustment knob to increase the current duty cycle to this solenoid until
the left leg starts to raise. Push the CAL switch to store that value.
6. The routine then indexes to the lower solenoid for the left leg Use the rotary adjustment knob to set the deadband value. Repeat for the right leg
raise and lower solenoids.
7. When finished, select CAL with either switch. This will return you to the manual control mode.
Hourmeter - Total hours grade/slope system is ON and total hours grade/slope system is run in AUTOMATIC. The readout will display "HR".
Warning beeper -: This audible alarm will alert the operator while operating in AUTO grade, that the sensor has detected a change greater that 2
1/2inches in grade and will hold the present grade. This routine lets you turn the beeper ON or OFF. The readout will display "BEP".
LCD display units - This routine allows the operator to select a different unit of measurement. The selections available are inches, feet or
centimeters. The readout will display "CAL UNT".
2. Level the machine in the manual mode with the rotary switches. Place a level on this surface.
3. Hold both auto/cal switches to the CAL position and turn rotary adjustment knob (with the flashing arrows at the top) until the readout reads, CAL
on the left display and slope on the right display. Release the switches.

01/01/1995 Informações de reboque (KEBU6664-02)
SMCS -
Sempre transporte a máquina
operador.

01/01/1995 Especificações do sistema de resfriamento (KEBU6664-02)
SMCS -
Informações do fresco
As temperaturas de operação do motor diesel aumentaram para melhorar a eficiência do motor.
Na verdade, o refrigerante é tão importante quanto a qualidade do combustível e do óleo
lubrificante.
PERCEBER
GM Specification 6038-M is a low silicate antifreeze, but supplemental coolant additive must be added.
* Significantly reduces water pump seal leakage problems caused by excessive concentration of chemical additives.
* There is no need to add supplemental coolant additive on initial fill which must be done with current commercially available antifreezes.
* High silicate antifreezes used with a supplemental coolant additive can cause a build up of solids over a period of time which can cause plugging,
loss of heat transfer, and water pump seal damage.
Adding pure antifreeze as a makeup solution for cooling system top-off is an unacceptable practice. It increases the concentration of antifreeze in
the cooling system which increases the concentration of dissolved solids and undissolved chemical inhibitors in the cooling system. Add antifreeze
mixed with water to the same freeze protection as your cooling system.
Use the chart below to assist in determining the concentration of Caterpillar Antifreeze to use.
Supplemental Coolant Additive
Supplemental coolant additive is necessary to prevent rust, scale, pitting and/or corrosion of engine parts that coolant comes in contact with. Most
antifreeze solutions DO NOT contain sufficient supplemental coolant additive.
NOTICE
Liquid supplemental coolant additive can be purchased from your Caterpillar dealer. Follow the instructions on the container.
NOTICE
On initial fill of a new or reconditioned engine if Caterpillar Antifreeze is not used, add 1 liter (1 quart) of supplemental coolant additive, or
equivalent, for each 30 liters (8 U.S. gallons) so that the cooling system will have a 3 to 6% concentration of supplemental coolant additive.
To maintain a 3 to 6% concentration of additive, add liquid supplemental coolant additive or install a maintenance supplemental coolant additive
element (if equipped), every 250 service hours or oil change, whichever occurs first. Use the 8T5296 Test Kit to check for concentration.
If the engine is not equipped with spin-on element, add .25 liter (.50 pint) of supplemental coolant additive for each 38 liters (10 U.S. gallons) of
coolant capacity to maintain the 3 to 6% concentration of additive.
Cooling System Cleaning
Caterpillar Cooling System Cleaners are designed to clean the system of harmful scale and corrosion. It dissolves mineral scale, corrosion
products, light oil contamination and sludge.
Clean the system according to the maintenance interval chart, or whenever the coolant is dirty or foaming.
Cooling system cleaners are available from your Caterpillar dealer in the quantities listed below. Follow the label directions for proper usage.

Informações de combustível
Use apenas combustível conforme recomendado nesta seção.
PERCEBER
grupos gerais, preferidos e permitidos.
durabilidade do motor.
Teor de enxofre do combustível
A porcentagem de enxofre no combustível afetará as recomendações de óleo do motor. O enxofre do combustível é quimicamente alterado
A medida dessa
conforme medido pelo método ASTM (American Society of Testing Materials) D-2896.

* Análise de desgaste
* Testes Químicos e Físicos
e fuligem presentes no óleo usado.
1995/01/11 Lubricant Specifications (KEBU6664-02)
SMCS -
Informações do Lubrificante
Certas abreviaturas seguem a nomenclatura Society of Automotive (SAE) J754 e algumas classificações seguem as abreviaturas SAE J183. SPC
Lubrificantes do Ártico

The conveyor belts will naturally stretch with normal use. Adjust the belts with small corrections, checking the operation with each adjustment. The
lower conveyor will have a small amount of sag.
Use the following procedure to adjust either conveyor belt. Check the operation and tracking after each adjustment with the belts under load.
1. Loosen locknut (1) and turn adjusting screw (2) to get the desired belt tension. If the belt is tracking properly, adjust both sides the same amount
at the same time.
2. If the belt is not tracking properly, tighten the tension on the side that the belt is tracking towards. Remember that the belt will track towards the
side that is loose.
Inspect the radiator and hydraulic oil cooler cores for debris and clean if necessary.
Compressed air is preferred, but high pressure water or steam can be used to remove dust, leaves and general debris from a radiator. Clean as
required by condition of radiator.
Refer to "Know Your Cooling System", for the complete procedure and instructions.
Machine
Clean
Clean the machine to keep it free from dirt and debris. If service or maintenance is required, wash down that area to minimize contamination.
Water Tanks
Check Water Level
Check the water level in the water tanks. The indicator at the right side of the machine shows the amount of water in the tank when the machine is
level.
Filter Inspection
Inspect Used Filter for Debris
Use a magnet to differentiate between ferrous and non-ferrous metals found in the filter element.
Ferrous metals can indicate wear on the steel and cast iron parts.
Non-ferrous metals can indicate wear on the aluminum parts of the engine, such as main, rod and/or turbocharger bearings.
Due to normal wear and friction, it is not uncommon to find small amounts of debris in the filter element. Consult your Caterpillar dealer to arrange
for further analysis if an excessive amount of debris is found.
Use of an oil filter element not recommended by Caterpillar can result in severe engine damage to engine bearings, crankshaft and other parts.
This can result in larger particles in unfiltered oil entering the lubricating system and causing damage.
Rotor
Inspect
See, Machine Service, for the topics on raising the rotor service door and installing the auxiliary rotor drive.
The life of the rotor bits will vary greatly with the type of material being cut, the temperature and the speed of operation. Check the length of the bits
periodically during the day and be sure they are replaced if they get worn down to length (1) of 30 mm (1.2 in) from the top of bit (2) to holder (3).
If the bits are not replaced when required, the holder will start hitting the pavement and will be severely damaged or even cause damage to the
rotor.
Uneven bit wear can result from a variety of reasons. One cause is the cutting of long stretches of material that are not as wide as the rotor.
Another possible cause is the cutting of asphalt overlaid on concrete in such a way that the rotor bits are hitting concrete on one section of the rotor
and hitting only asphalt on another section.
If the machine is to be used to cut an accurate cross slope, the rotor bits should be checked for uneven wear and replaced if uneven wear has
occurred. The machine will not cut an accurate cross slope unless the bits are all the same length.
Change Bits
Thoroughly clean the rotor especially around the bits that need to be removed.
Infrared Sensors
Clean Lens
Existem sensores infravermelhos no canto direito do motor.
Limpe o emissor e o receptor.

8. Start the engine and check for leaks. Allow the coolant level to stabilize.
9. Add premixed coolant if necessary to bring the coolant to within 13 mm (.5 in) below the bottom of the fill pipe.
Belts
Inspect Air Compressor and Alternator Belts
For maximum engine performance and utilization of your engine, inspect the belts for wear and cracking. Check and adjust the belt tension to
minimize belt slippage which will decrease belt life and cause poor performance of alternator and any driven equipment.
To check the alternator belt tension, apply a 110 N (25 lb) force midway between the pulleys. Correctly adjusted belts will deflect 10 to 15 mm (.4 to
.6 in).
If new belt is installed, check belt adjustment again, after 30 minutes of operation.
Batteries
Check Electrolyte Level
Check the following at least every 1000 hours, and more often as conditions require:
At the proper charging rate, in a moderate climate, a battery should not require more than 30 cc (1 ounce) of water per cell per week.
Check the cells weekly in extreme temperatures, cell water usage could be higher.
2. Clean the battery surface with a clean cloth. Keep the terminals clean and coated with petroleum jelly. Install the post cover after coating.
3. Inspect the electrolyte level in each battery cell, except maintenance free. Maintain the level to the bottom of the fill openings with distilled water.
If distilled water is not available, use clean drinking water.
2. Turn the battery disconnect switch key to OFF and remove the key.
3. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable, at the battery disconnect switch, that is connected to the machine frame.
NOTE: Do not allow the disconnected battery cable to contact the disconnect switch.

PERCEBER
2. Limpe a base de montagem do filtro.
2. Operate the pump to fill the new filters with fuel. Continue pumping until resistance is felt, indicating the filters are full of fuel.
4. Start the engine and look for leaks around the filters.
If the engine fails to start or continues to misfire or smoke, further purging is necessary. With the engine running, or with the use of the priming
pump, loosen the fuel line nuts, one at a time, several times in succession and allow fuel to flow until free of air bubbles. Use two wrenches to avoid
breaking fuel lines. Tighten the fuel line nuts.
2. Wash breather cap (1) and the strainer in clean, nonflammable solvent.
1. Loosen breather outlet hose clamp (2) and remove hose (1) from breather (4).
2. Loosen breather inlet hose clamp (3) and remove the breather.
