e Srila Vishvanatha Cakravarti Thakura
Ele queria ouvir de seu Guru Kashi Mishra sobre Ujjvala-rasa – a “brilhante” rasa, referindo-se
à madhurya-rasa, o amor conjugal entre Krishna e as Gopis.
No mundo espiritual, Krishna é o único Purusha, Homem, e todas as jivas – almas individuais –
são femininas.
SavisheSha-bhava – os que pensam em Deus com atributos e são aptos a sentir a variedade de
rasas.
Chapter 31
Madhura-rasa – the predominant feeling in the relationship between wife and husband
(Svakîya) and beloved and lover (Parakîya)
Nayaka Svakias-Nayikas – Nayaka (the hero Krishna) and His Wives Nayikas (heroines)
Vijaya Kumar was reading from Sri Ujjvala-Nilamani – a book written by Rupa Goswami at the
request of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. In it, Rupa gives description of the types of Gopis, the
moods like anubhava, sattvika-bhava, etc. There is a version of the book with commentaries by
Jiva Goswami and Srila Vishvanatha Cakravarti Thakura
He wanted to hear from his Guru Kashi Mishra about Ujjvala-rasa – the “brilliant” rasa,
referring to madhurya-rasa, the conjugal love between Krishna and the Gopis.
“Among the mukhya-rasas...” – the 4 main rasas (Shanta, Dasya, Sakhya, Vatsalya and
Madhurya)
“madhurya rasa is completely different from material shringara-rasa”, the erotic love between
men and women in the mundane sphere, and which is an inverted reflection of madhurya rasa
in the spiritual plane. Here Bhaktivinod expresses the Vedantic concept that the effect
(material shringara-rasa) is necessarily different from the cause (madhurya rasa on the spiritual
plane).
The hierarchy of rasas in the spiritual world - shanta-rasa, dasya-rasa, sakhya-rasa, vatsalya-
rasa and madhura-rasa. And in the material world, madhura-rasa, vatsalya-rasa, sakhya-rasa,
dasya-rasa and santa-rasa.
In the spiritual world, Krishna is the only Purusha, Man, and all jivas – individual souls – are
female.
Krisha is the vishaya of madhura-rasa – the object of conjugal love. The nature of love
demands that the individual soul take shelter (Ashraya) in some entity and accept another
entity as its object (Vishaya). There cannot be love without Ashraya and Vishaya.
In Madhura-Rasa, Krishna accepts both the relationship of Husband (Krishna of Mathura and
Dvaraka) and Lover (Krishna of Vrindavana and Gokula).
NirvisheSha-bhava – those who think of God without attributes and do not develop a personal
relationship with the Lord.
SavisheSha-bhava – those who think of God with attributes and are able to feel the variety of
rasas.
ASTa-Kaliya-Lîla-Smarana – is the description of Sri Krishna's daily pastimes divided into 8 time
periods. The earliest records of the method (paddhati) of Smarana (remembrance) seem to
have been worked out by Svarupa Damodara, the personal secretary of Sri Chaitanya, under
the guidance of the Lord Himself, and later written by Srila Sanatana Gosvami. It is known that
Srila Sanatana suggested reading the first 45 chapters of the Tenth Canto to some disciples in
order to promote Smarana.
However, there is a small text called AsTa-Kaliya-Smarana of Radha and Krishna which is
attributed to Srila Rûpa Gosvami; Rupa Goswami seems to have written it towards the end of
his life at the request of disciples and devotees in Vraja to guide them on how to meditate on
Radha and Krishna's daily pastimes during harinama.
Later, Srila Krishnadasa Kaviraj Gosvami expanded the original text, describing in detail the
same pastimes in his famous Govinda Lilâmrta. But there are other versions, such as Srila
Vishvanath Chakravarti's Krishna Bhavanamrta.
