Liquor, moisture, stronge drink. France - Latin) M.E. licour, licur. - A. F. licur; F.
liquer, moisture. I. liquõrem, acc. of liquer moisture. - L. liquêre, to be moist. Now
accommodated to L. spelling; we also use mod. F. liqueur.
Liquor. Restored from ME. lucr, OF. licour (liqueur), . L. liquor-em (v.s,). For
degeneration in meaning, e.g. in liquor, the worse (better) for liquor, cf. drink. So also
liquor traffic.
Drink apresenta uma raiz saxônica, enquanto na segunda mostra que há uma
influência anglo saxonica igualmente a terceira definição de Walter W. que indo
além também traz a raiz germânica trinken.
2) The words “liquor” and “bottle” both made the same path from Latin to Old
French to English. “Drink”, on the other hand, although more semantically close to
“liquor”, has a much different path coming from Anglo Saxon and Germanic origins.
