ABSTRACT
This essay aims to analyze the mention of Guilgal in the pericope of Hosea 9,15-17, which
takes part in "a rereading of the history of Israel". The Historical-Critical Method is used,
the diachronic method that provides a historical and critical exegesis accepted as
philology and textual criticism / criticism of the constitution of the text / criticism of the
form / criticism of the literary genre. Since the pericope of Hosea 9,15-17 is inserted in
of the Guilgal Historical Tradition and concludes with the exegetical commentary
addressing how this historical tradition is articulated in the text. Thus, one can ascertain
its existence as a minimal textual unit, its literary organization and intentionality: the
identification of Hosea 9,15-17 as the autonomous minor unit revolves around the unifying
element of the punishment referring to the descent and geographical mention of
Guilgal, constituting the second part of the historical retrospective of Hosea 9,10-17,
which T. E. McComiskey calls "Captivity is the Reward for the Syncretistic Religion of Israel".
Therefore, complemented by this analysis of the historical tradition related to Guilgal, it is
perceived how the tradition related to Guilgal is the relevant data in the pericope,
interconnecting the origins of the monarchy with contemporary worship. Thus, the
promiscuous relationship between worship and politics is condemned, and the
consequent subordination of religion to political interests, which have consequences not
only for the ruling classes, but also on the people themselves.

9,15a Toda sua maldade está em Guilgal,
9,15b pois ali os detestei!
9,15c Por causa da perversidade de seus
atos,
9,15d de minha casa os expulsarei;
9,15e não voltarei a amá-los;
9,15f todos seus príncipes são obstinados!
9,16a Golpeado está Efraim:
9,16b suas raízes estão secas,
9,16c fruto não darão!
9,16d Ainda que gerem filhos,
9,16e farei morrer o desejável de seus
ventres!
9,17a Que os rejeite meu Deus,
9,17b pois não o escutaram;
