RESUMO
ABSTRACT
Aims: This work was carried out with a view to treating obesity, its
associated diseases and the main surgical techniques. In addition, obe-
sity is a condition in which excessive accumulation of body fat extends
so that the health and well-being of the individual are affected. Thus,
increasing prevalence has mobilized doctors worldwide to seek ways to
prevent and treat this disease.
Methods: Review of scientific articles, textbooks and epidemiological
database of the Ministério da Saúde from 2012 to 2017.
Results: Bypass by Roux-en-Y and gastric Sleeve are the most per-
formed surgical techniques in the world, both demonstrating a greater
weight loss and a more significant improvement in the comorbidities of
the obese patient.
Conclusions: The greater amount of data available on patients who
underwent bariatric surgery and were monitored in the long term de-
monstrate that this is an option with excellent results for those individuals
with morbid obesity or with obesity-associated comorbidities.
Keywords: Obesity; Bariatric Surgery; Gastric Bypass; Gastrectomy;

Epidemiologia
chegou a 17%.
