ABSTRACT: The aim of the study was to identify the determinants of food
choices of nutritionists and evaluate them from the perspective of areas of
expertise. The research was conducted in online groups in the social
networks facebook, whatsapp and telegram, and The Eating Motivation
Survey (TEMS) questionnaire was applied via google forms, allowing the
identification of the determinants and motivations to eat. The statistical
treatment was done using Excel for Windows and BioEstat 5.0 software. The
probability of significance considered was 5% (p≤0.05) for the operations
performed. The study included 104 nutritionists, with ages of 38.25 ± 10.23
years, 97% female and prevalence of work in the areas of Clinical Nutrition
(46%) and Nutrition in the Production Chain in the Food Industry and Trade
(18%). The analysis of the answers indicated that the highest scores were
"health", "habits" and "preference" and the lowest scores were "social
image", "control of emotions" and "social norms". The comparison of food
choice motivations according to area of work indicated a significant difference
(p= 0.0106328) in the "preference" dimension among professionals working
in the areas of "Nutrition in Sports and Physical Exercise" and "Nutrition in
the Food Industry and Trade Production Chain". In the "health" dimension,
the professionals acting in the "Clinical Nutrition" and "Sports and Exercise
Nutrition" areas differed significantly (p= 0.0162070) from those who act in
the "Nutrition in the Food Industry and Trade Production Chain" area. It is
