ABSTRACT: This report describes the practice of extracting caffeine from black tea,
caffeine is a psychoactive compound, and it is the most consumed in the world, as it
is present in many products, from food, medicines and plant derivatives. The
following experiment presents the extraction of caffeine from black tea, in which it
was extracted from a mixture of 15.1301 g of black tea and 7.0 g of calcium
carbonate that was boiled, after being cooled and passed through the vacuum filter,
the filtrate was separated using a separating funnel and 4 portions of 20 ml of
dichloromethane, and caffeine was obtained in its impure form, the organic phase
after dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate, was added to a flask round bottom and
taken to the rotary evaporator where the dichloromethane was evaporated and then
the 0,1851 g of pure caffeine present in black tea was found.
