CAMPOS DE EXPERIÊNCIAS:
1. Start the lesson by reviewing the previous lesson about the story between the
prince and the princess in the medieval times. Ask students questions about the
story to help them remember the story. Encourage them to tell you and the class
the whole story.
2. Show the students the picture of the castle and its surroundings. Ask them (and
elicit) about everything they can see: the castle, the houses, the barn, the people
(peasants working in the fields), the water mill, and other features in case they
ask you.
3. Draw students’ attention to the castle. Raise questions about the castle:
“WHAT IS THIS, DO YOU REMEMBER?”
“WHO LIVES INSIDE THERE?”
Show them the flashcards of the king, the prince, the queen, the princess and the
knight. Elicit from students who they are.
“AND YOU, ARE YOU A PRINCE/PRINCESS?”
“WHERE DO YOU LIVE?”
Ask students to show the pictures of their homes.
“WHICH PART OF THE HOUSE IS THIS ONE?”
“DO YOU LIVE IN A HOUSE OR APARTMENT?”
Ask students to tell you about the rooms in their homes. Explore the features that
appear in the picture.
4. Explore the flashcards once again. Have students point to the pictures as you
mention them. Have students look at the small houses.
“WHO’S WORKING IN THE FIELDS?”
Point to the peasants and show them the flashcards. Highlight the word “peasant”
and explain that they work in the fields.
“ARE THERE ANY ANIMALS THERE? WHERE’S THE CHURCH?”
“CAN YOU SEE TOWERS IN THE CASTLE?”
“WHO STAYS INSIDE THE CASTLE?”
Draw one castle on the board.
“WHAT DOES THE KNIGHT DO IN THE CASTLE?”
Tell students that the knight is like a soldier, he protects the castle against
the enemies in battle. Sometimes he stays in the towers to watch the enemies
approaching the castle. Make sure to use body language to make things clear to
the students.
6. Show students your model of the tower (see Preparation in Advance). Pass it
along so students can see it.
7. Hand out Worksheet 1. Have students cut and paste the shapes from the appendix
to build a castle
8. Sketchpad. Motivate the students to build their own houses on the sketchpad.
