1. Introduction
The term Geography comes from the Greek words geo and graphos, meaning, respectively,
Earth and to write. Geography is the scientific study of the Earth's surface, with the aim of
describing and analyzing the spatial variation of physical, biological and human phenomena
that take place on the surface of the terrestrial globe. It is considered one of the oldest
sciences developed by Western civilization, bringing its basic concepts outlined in Ancient
Greece, where it developed as a science and method of philosophical thought. At first it was
known as Natural History or Natural Philosophy. We can highlight Tales of Miletus,
Herodotus, Eratosthenes, Hipparchus, Aristotle, Strabo and Ptolemy as major contributors in
the development of Geography studies.

Studying Geography is a way of understanding the world we live in. Through this study, we
can better understand the place where we live (city, rural area) and the country we are part of,
as well as other countries on the earth's surface. Knowledge of Geography can also
encompass the study of a people, a civilization over a territory; ultimately, the relationship
between man and nature, mediated by work, resulting in geographic space. Geography is
defined as the science that studies the relationship between society and nature. Therefore,
geographic space is a historical product of human activity.

The present work aims to develop an essay about my current course, including its modality,
content, duration and other important or relevant information. During the development of the
theme I will describe my plans, dreams and aspirations for the future after completing this
course. The work has the following structure: cover; Feedback Sheet; Sheet for improvement
recommendations: To be filled in by the tutor; index; introduction; objectives; methodology;
analysis and discussion (development); final considerations (conclusion); and bibliographic
references.

1
1.1.Objectives
1.1.1. General
 Write an essay about your current course, including your modality.

1.1.1. Specific’s
 Describe the geography course in Mozambique;
 Identify the modality, content and duration of the course;
 Explain my plans, dreams and aspirations for the future after completing
this course.

1.2.Methodology
The present work was carried out based on the rules of publication of kinetic works of the
UCM. For the development of the theme in question, we resorted to reading several literary
works, articles and manuals that address issues related to the theme. As it is not enough, we
also resorted to the use of the internet.

2. Geography: Essay Written About My Course
2.1.Geography
Geography is the science that studies geographic space and the relationship between society
and the environment. It is not a geographic space that is established as human relationships.
The importance of Geography is related to the need to know the geographic space and this can
be understood as the space produced by man and that is in constant transformation over time.
We can say, then, that the geographic space has a historical character and, therefore, is
capable of telling the story and the characteristics of human action on the environment in
which it lives.

However, it is not only about knowledge about the names of countries, their capitals,
population data, etc., but also about explaining the dynamics of actions in space, which are
not disconnected from time. For example: the dynamics of the transformation of spaces in the
city, the agrarian logic, the distribution of social movements, the surface geomorphological
structure of the Earth, among others.

Geography's main objective is to understand the dynamics of space to assist in the planning of
human actions on it. Understanding how landforms, climatic phenomena, social compositions,
human habits in different places are essential for the maintenance of life in societies. Studying
geographic space can be useful to unravel and understand socio-spatial problems. The
importance of Geography lies in its contributions to the knowledge of human space and its
forms of transformation and occupation.

2.2.About My Course

2.3.Modality
The course that the UCM - CED offers is carried out in the distance learning model,
exclusively and in the e-Learning modality. This application is a pedagogical model in which
learning is based on the student who requires greater autonomy in the search for knowledge,
through their interaction with the tutor and with other students, via the Moodle Platform. On
this platform, defined as a virtual learning management space, the student finds and carries
out online learning activities: interaction with the tutor through forums, chats and estimates.

2.4.Contents
The course is based on books called modules or subjects. These modules can be electronic or
in physical format. However, the course has 36 modules or strong disciplines in general and
specific disciplines. These are taken in eight semesters, which makes four years. The general
and specific subject numbers change each year, as described in the following table.
