Exercise 1
Bob travels a lot. He likes visiting European cities but every now and then he explores different continents. When Bob visits these places he likes to
speak the local language. Last year, for example, he learnt Spanish so now he can speak three foreign languages. This makes it easier for Bob to
communicate when he is travelling.
Kate is a very sociable person and a very good friend. She has many talents but there’s one that stands out. Kate is very good at talking in front of a
crowd. She is very natural and confident. Every year the school principal invites her to host the school ball ceremony. Kate just loves it! She says that
one day she’ll have her own TV show. Wouldn’t that be great?
My friend Linda is a sweet and delicate person. I like spending my free time with her because she relaxes me. She loves telling stories. Sometimes I
watch Linda play her flute. She plays wonderfully. I wish I could play a musical instrument as well as Linda. But I will never learn if I don’t start, right?
To talk about Paul is a bit difficult because I don’t know how to describe him. He’s a bit shy but he likes to hang around with us all. You are never in
a bad mood when Paul is around. He is so funny! Even when his school marks are low or when he has problems with his girlfriend, Paul always has
some good jokes to share. What a laugh!
One of my best friends is Tom. He is very creative and hardworking and he also has many talents. He is great at baking cakes. He always bakes my
favourite chocolate fudge cake for my birthday party. Tom loves drawing and painting too. He can be painting outside in the garden all afternoon. But
if you want to know the truth, Tom is absolutely brilliant at making videos. Wait until you see him on YouTube one of these days. Oh, and don’t forget
to subscribe!

Exercise 2
This year our Professional Circus School is offering a full time course in Circus Arts. The course is designed for people who already have circus
experience and want to specialise in a new skill and be part of an ensemble circus show. This course starts on 9th March and finishes on 29th June.
It is an intensive 16 week course, training from Monday to Friday, offering 30 hours per week in multiple aerial and acrobatic disciplines. The goal is
to create an act and perform in an end of course graduation show. Applicants should have a background in dance, gymnastics and acrobatics, and
a great level of motivation and passion.

Red Bull & Sports

Red Bull sells around six billion cans1 of their energy drink every year since they first started
selling over 3 decades ago. But, nowadays the brand2 is associated with two Formula One
teams, three football clubs and a great variety of extreme sports events.
They had the idea of sponsoring3 sports as a marketing exercise during the 1990s. They are
now the most visible sponsor of extreme sports. The brand’s influence in extreme sports
includes windsurfing, cliff diving, rock climbing, Formula One, and even its own Air Racing
series which became very successful very quickly.
This makes the brand very appealing to young people. They find these sports very exciting
and relate to extreme athletes more easily than they do to a big sports star.
Another interesting fact is that Red Bull is Austrian. Austria is famous for great skiing as well
as extreme sports like hang-gliding. Finally, whenever the company participates in a sporting
event, they have their brand everywhere. They even have models handing out free cans of the
drink.
